Just wondering as I`d like to know if you too are experiencing APPALLING download speeds at the moment?
Its been going on for about a month now, and since I first reported it I discovered that my Surfboard modem is so old it can only provide me a 4Mb connection, even though I`m paying for 10 ( which has recently doubled to 20 )
I complained to them and got a £240 refund for them overcharging me for over a year!
I was paying £37.99 a month for a 4Mb connection ! So they refunded the overcharged amount.

Just to let anyone else know, ring them if you feel their service is crap, and especially ring them if you are paying for the XL package and have got a broadband modem that is about 4+ years old and was supplied by NTL.

You can test you speed here : URL (http://www.speedtest.bbmax.co.uk/)
At the moment I`m getting between 50 and 150 kbps. when I SHOULD be off the scale!
Whatever you do , dont let them put you through to tech support because
1) Its a problem with VirginMedia
2) They charge 25p a minute
3) The call center is in India ( and I couldnt understand the guy properly! )
4) They give you rubbish advice, like telling me to turn off my AV as it would slow down my connection!! ! ! !
5) Make sure you get a refund for EVERY month that your connection was shit.

I have about three other mates who are with them , and they are having EXACTLY the same issue. Apparently its going to be sorted by 27th July, I`m guessing they are improving the capacity of the network, as it seems that the more people using it the slower it gets.
I was getting 6Mb the other morning, but it was on Sunday at 6am - as the day wore on it got slower and slower....................

Feel for me guys! My 20Mb connection just clocked in at
DL Speed: 260
UL Speed: 720

This speed test is the one the tech guys at Virgin get you to use.
Wanna know why?
If you watch, you could spend 90% of the test at a piss-poor 150-200, only to see it peak right at the end at perhaps 450-500 (possibly!). The site clocks the highest speed reached and the uses that as your final speed. Which is basically crap.

I always thought your UL should be a quarter of your DL ( or thereabouts ), I can upload faster than I can download !! !

I`m hoping it will improve when I move into our house and out of the flat I`m in. Hopefully a different area with less condensed users will give me a faster bandwidth.

Grrrrr! Fucking rip-off Britain! ( And don`t even get me started on our shite summer! )
More rain tomorrow I see.........................

Whereabouts in the UK are you? Looks like you`re getting the correct speeds! Perhaps I need to move there!

My download and upload speeds are normal (tested on a different website!)

4mb download, 500k upload.

Been with NTL (now virgin) for about 3/4 years, despite the initial ball ache of setting the broadband up (overcharging etc) once settled its been almost flawless, probably only had 12hours of downtime over the whole 3/4 years.

Just yesterday I got their tv and phone package as well, due to a friend working there, I have the XL tv package and talk unlimited fitted free, and only pay £2 a month more than I was for just the broadband on its own, lol.
