Lag will be a problem if u have a bad internet connection, it will have nothing to do with the servers u play on. If u mean frames per second u may see a drop with loads of infected on screen at ounce but not much if u have a decent processor/gpu.

plus the game will be optimized to run with as little fps drop as possible i would imagine, but if it comes to it i reckon its worth upgrading ur pc for this game;P

I think the graphics of L4D are a bit lower than HL2 to balance out the stress caused by the infected. That's what i heard somewhere at least.

They aren't. It runs on Episode 2 and looks much better than vanilla HL2 including a new particle system and better dynamic lighting.

You don't need to 'balance out the stress' from the infected because of the fact that the HL2 engine (which is one of the best optimized engines on the market, along with the Unreal engine) was designed to be have a high spec requirement in the year 2004. In essence, any gamers computer/ISP should be more than capable of running Left 4 Dead with optimal settings and optimal performance.

The thread isn't pointless at all. Lag could be an issue which would ruin the game for everyone if there was a problem with the server -> client connection or something. Also not everyone who plays games is a gamer with a £5000 pro gaming setup, some people just want to play casually without having quad-core CPUs and a crazy graphics/physics card.

Slightly off-topic, I don't get why lag has become an acceptable part of online gaming, I mean seriously with the amount of technology around now, I'd rather have a lag free game than one where the developers spend 3 years on a piece of wood breaking accurately.

Lag is NOT acceptable in online games, especially ones such as this. Lag is acceptable in some instances but if the game is built around online it's absolute a no no. Only SLIGHT lag should be present on a bad connection, good connection should have none to very minimal lag.
