The last book came out like 5 hours ago... I'm reading it now (Torrents for the win, no its not illegal =P im planning on buying the hardcover maybe next week when they actually have them on shelves) if anyone else is interested.. I guess not but ummm... w00t nother topic!!! I can post major spoilers if you like.

Now there is left but one thing, let the years pass and the series fall into obscurity... And when the alien races find the desolate barren wasteland that is Earth after a nuclear war... they will read HARRY POTTER!!! dum dum dum...

Seriously... ive waited years to read this book... The perks with series like LoTR, the Space Trilogy and even C.S Lewis other works (Gnarnia) is that they were done... I could buy the whole damn set, read it and get it over with but not this one noooooo....

I havent had the chance to read it yet, I'll probably steal my sister's copy in a week or so.

They probably won't make any sense anyway because you haven't read the Half Blood Prince have you?

The Deathly Hallows refer to 3 magical objects... some sort of magic stone, the ELDER WAND and the invisible cloak Harry got from... whoever...

Voldemort wants the 1337 wand so he can pwn (the wand chooses its owner unless someone kills him/her, and then the killer becomes the new owner) so he kills Snape who he believes to be the next owner after dumbledore... And then we find out it was alll a plan set up by Snape and Dumbledore, who, after putting on the Gaunts ring started to die anyway so he let Snape kill him...

the REAL owner of the wand is Draco Malfoy, whom harry bested in a duel, so therefore making harry the new owner of the eldar wand. At the end Voldemort attacks Hogwarts and the older studens, the order, teachers, and one MoM guy fights, along with Grawp and Hagrid...

Harry fights voldemort and gets avada kedavra'd but survives because of more 1337 magic and feigns his death... Voldemort parades his victory into the great hall where another battle erupts when people dont want to give up. Death Eaters and stuff are driven inside the castle when giants, centaurs and more people arrive to finally fight... I think dont quite recall, Fred dies here... Then a 1337 duel starts with Voldemort vs. 3 other wizards, and Bellatrix Lestrange vs. Mrs. Weasley... I think Bellatrix dies im not sure..

Anyhow, somewhere inbetween that Harry gets under his invisible cloak and makes his way in... So hes practically in the middle of the two duels. circumstances force him to reveal himself and everyones like "z0mg HES ALIIIIIIVE" and then they talk for a really long time while squaring each other down (harry and voldemort) and then harry pretty much tells him what happened...

Voldemort killed Dumbledor and Snape for the Elder Wand so he could have POOWER...
The wand CHOSE Draco Malfoy however
Harry beats Draco becoming the new owner
And when Voldemort casts avada kedaevra the spell reflects back and he pwnz himself...

Yeah, not many people see it on the same level as LOTR. To be honest, I am a type of person who loves a good story. Deep literature is fun sometimes, but mostly I just want an epic story, and to that end Harry Potter delivers. In my opinion, that puts Rowling on par with Tolkien. I also love the way she relates her characters to every day people, and develops them. It's very simple, but also very real.

When Harry Potter had first come out, I hated it. Thought it was retarded, some boy 'wizard' with a little stick. But as you read them, you develop a sort of bond with the characters. I found myself using Harry Potter as an escape from reality. It has all the things of adolescence, which makes it very real, but at the same time, it has the heroics, which I personally have always dreamed of =P

Alas, I'm no English major, but I love to read. Harry Potter gives people a world of magic, danger, and mystery with characters that they can relate to. Fantasy at it's best!

I'd rather be a wizard than a computer IT guy any day...

I never got why people compared LoTR to Harry Potter... they were always so damn different. In fact, I once asked this to someone and they said, "Well duh, they both have magic.." and every time someone has to bring up magic and I go, "Wtf how you ever read LoTR's"... Anyway it's just odd...

But I agree Lotr>Harry Potter, in my opinion however, Tolkiens best works, the ones that really build the back ground of the actual trilogy are the unfinished ones in The Silmarillion and Unfinished Tales... I like those two books more so than the actual LoTR trilogy.

Except she has explicitly expressed that she does not want anyone to continue, and legally she owns the rights to the characters, I believe. Her world can only be used with her express permission.
