Source Game problem

This is for source games (except zombie mod for CSS)

I some how got past the freezing when loading into a game (I put something in the shortcut although it was really slow loading) and I was in the game then I got that direct X 8 error or soemthing.

Please help! It does this for every source game/mod except the CSS Zombie Mod.

1 gig RAM
7950 GT 512mb Nvidia
179 GB space
Pentium 4 3.20ghz

I hope I can play L4D.. :(

But I think one of them before said something about DirectX 8?

i think if u really wanna fix this problem i think u should totally restart steam ( like re installling the games n' all) and maybe looks for any updates for direct x if that doesn't work i don't know what will

Maybe you are running DX8... try updating DX, drivers and everything... does it do this just for STEAM games? If so, its probably something went wrong with your installation. If it does it for all games, then something is wrong with your computer... What motherboard do you have?

It is just Steam. My games use to work with my card that came with my computer then I updated one card, it happened (just freezing) then to Nvidia card now freezing and crashing! I have latest drivers. I do have latest DX but I am getting april one now. I have windows XP Service Pack 2.

hmm,never heard about a problem like this before..and i don't really know what to do eaither :P but the good thing is that im sure u will be able to play L4D :) since u can play css (or am i wrong?) hope u fix it tho,Good luck :)

Yeah check this, (will I play L4D still?)

I actually put this in my game launch options and it worked (slow loading though), -nosound -windowed -dxlevel 70 +mat_forcehardwaresync 0 then I removed nosound and put my sound on basic (DXDIAG) and it still worked. I tried No windowed and dxlevel 80 and last time it froze, I`m not sure which one did it. I am guessing it was the DX8.
