I was wondering what difficulty levels will be available to play. I know there is Easy and Normal, but is there anything above hard like "Insane" or "Nightmare." A really hard mode would be fun to screw around with.

I think it's just easy normal and hard, but it may be accurate to think of hard as insane.

A difficulty with an insane (almost lag on an 8800gtx) amount of zombies + god mode would be perfect for stress relief though.

(almost lag on an 8800gtx)

Indeed, for we all know that the performance of the 8800GTX is comparable to that of a small quantum computer. It'd take a thousand zombies to bring one o' them down!

Do I detect the minty smell of sarcasm? Or are you serious?

Also, AckAck: Is your name from Mars Attacks?

AFAIK there have been no specific mentions of the highest difficulty levels.

Recuperation is for the weak. And the 8800 is shit, most decidedly so on Vista.

Nah, I don't go to bed to recuperate, just to blend in with the humans who need rest.

Poor Vista. I'm sure that somewhere out there, there's a fan of Vista.... somewhere.

I mean hell, I'm pretty sure even Jar Jar Binks was adored by a few nuts.

The incarnation of him seen at the end of this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yH8b5ruc_-E&mode=related&search=) clip is quite passable. Almost.

A) There will be a difficulty above Hard.
Easy, Normal, Hard, then Insane or whatever.

B) The source engine lagging? On my 8800GTS?

C) I'm on Vista.

lol way to go off topic guys.

8800 Sucks? HA! Hilarious.

Vista isn't that bad anymore now that I got the updates and fixes. It use to be horrible.

I doubt you're even aware of the loss of general performance in Vista. Yes, the 8800GTS performs relatively well in Source on Vista, but game applications generally run better on XP - including Source. Hundreds of benchmarks show this.

It doesn't matter though because even if I'm losing 20FPS I'm still running everything at a higher FPS than the human eye can handle realistically.

Right. I won't argue with that, but whenever my framerate drops below the 50s, my in-game performance (as in my "gaming aptitude") drops considerably. It's still a huge improvement over my old GPU, make no mistake, I just find it quite frustrating that I'm not getting quite the performance I want.

It's really impossible to tell the difference between 40 and 70 fps. 20 or 30 is noticeable but anything around 40 is fine.

So you say.
Try doing this; start up any game (preferably one that utilizes Source), open up the console and type "fps_max 40" or "max_fps 40". I doubt I need to expatiate upon their function. Try it out.

I've been playing PC games for 7 years now. There is no major difference between 40 and 70 FPS. Both are extremely playable.

Ok, that's your opinion. I can personally distinguish quite easily between 40-70 fps. Heck, I can distinguish between 60-100 fps, too.

I don't know any online FPS with difficulty settings for the multiplayer. That's mostly singleplayer only. Then again, most FPS only have PvP and no PvE... so to say. :/

I wonder if those settings will be offline only. :/

Any multilayer game with bots has multiplayer difficulty settings. Except for bots which are of a specific skill level which can't be altered, of which I've seen none for a very long time.

Dead Fish

That's true, you could describe the regular infected as bots. Difficulty settings probably would also affect ammo/health availabilty, number on enemys and so on. Don't know; for me those option's were mostly connected to singleplayer. :) It's kinda refreshing anyways.

My head hurts too much to follow the off topic so I'm assuming the OP never got answered.

I believe the difficulties were:

Easy
Normal
Hard
Expert

or something to that effect...

And yeah, normal is pretty damn tough.

Maybe they could implement a rating system of some sort a few patches down and change the difficulty according to a sum of all 4 survivor's skill levels.

If they don't, a left4dead version of one of the source admin mods will probably implement that on the PC version.

But I couldn't really sort through the OT, and I was waiting for (no offense) a more reliable source. I.E Someone who has actually played the game.
