View Full Version : A hardware question - E6750 vs. the E6700

Alright so it's time to buy a new CPU. I'm going from a 3.0 P4 Prescott to a Dual Core so I hope they'll be a much needed in game speed increase. My question is: Now that the new Dual Cores came out on Sunday, which is the better buy? The E7600 or the E6750? I've been reading reviews and they both have about the same (if not identical) performance but the E6750 is about 100$ cheaper (although for some reason Newegg's e6750s are a bit more expensive than other sites - but free shipping and it'll get here in a 1-2 days) The only major difference between the two that I've been reading about is the FSB (1066 vs. 1333 Mhz). I hear the E6750 is better for overclocking as well. Seems like the obvious choice is the E750 for performance/price but am I missing anything??? Why is there such a price difference or is it Intel just being nice to us knowing we are going to need a new motherboard to accommodate the FSB? I will be getting a new mobo for the cpu too so that's not a problem.
The E6750 URL (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115029)
The E6700 URL (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115002)
One last thing: This new CPU/mobo and 2 gig of RAM coupled with a XFX 7900GT 256mb (yeah I know I was stupid for buying one - 6 months later they figured out they used faulty memory on the board... got a new one from XFX and no problems so far) should be fine for running the upcoming fall line up right (L4D, Assassin's Creed, CD4, and GoW)??? Thanks.

Thanks for the reply. I checked it out but nothing on these 2 newer processors (I'm at work so I didn't read it thoroughly so I might of missed it). Any other takers?

The E6750 looks better because of what those people reviewed it as.
Plus, I thought Assasins Creed was for 360?

Go for the cheaper E6750.
They can both be overclocked well, but the E6700 has a higher multiplier which is better for overclocking.
In short, the extra $100 for the other chip isn't worth it, there is so little between them.
If it were my money, I'd get the E6750.

You mean the 6750 right? The 6750 is cheaper and a bit faster than the 6700 (which is weird)...

Go for the Q6600 as the prices will fall in August, Q6600 will cost about as much as E6600 now. And if i would have to pick a dual core-processor i would pick E6600 because its highly overclockable.

Do you know what date the Q6600 is going to drop in price? Because if you could get that for like 250 bucks that would be insane. And you're saying the 6600 because you'd save some money and just overclock the thing instead?

E6600 is more overclockable than 6700 and 6750 and goes well with aircooling. And the date for price cuts was something between August 21. -25.

There was a price cut sometime around July 22nd (a few days ago) on Q6600's.

ooops, I misread the prices, i thought the 6750 was the more expensive option!
The 6700 is more expensive (i'm assuming) because of its higher multiplier, making it more appealing to OC'ers.
Best edit my first post!

yeah there was a price drop on Q6600 this past sunday... (22nd). There's going to be another? Because if so then I'll wait. I thought the 6700 and the 6600 were supposed to drop in price as well...

I thought the price cut was set to August but seems like this was just a Q6600 price cut...i bet the E6600 will get cheaper next month at least.

That will be sweet if it does.. it's already @ a decent price ~185 bucks (too lazy to go back into my link up above heh)
