Hmm. Of those two, I'd go with the 8800. But then, I could just be biased considering that was what I was running for the last two years till upgrading to the gtx260 last week. I did have the 640mb model tho.

Honestly, I have heard that they tend to outperform the 9000 series models.

If you have the option, I'd recommend finding out if your mobo can run the gtx260, cause it's priced at about the same as the 8800's right now. Actually picked mine up for less, and it runs GTA4 beautifully on high settings (course, the q9550 I picked up helps with that...)

Untrue.

Get the 260 though if it is in your price range. (216 core of course)

Go with a 260 or 4870. You'll only have to spend $30 or $40 more than that 8800, and it's much better.

Untrue.

Not untrue. I have seen reports in which the 9000 series was being outperformed by the 8800. I'm not saying that there are many such reports, or that it's indicative of the entire line, but that's what I saw.

DO NOT BUY FROM BESTBUY.
Buy from Newegg.

EDIT: BY GOD, THEY WANT TO CHARGE YOU 159.99$ FOR THAT?

Here is the same thing, with a better brand. And it's WAY better priced.

ew I didn't notice the 320 mb. If you're going to play at resolutions above 1280x1024, you absolutely need a video card with 512 mb of RAM...benchmarks show most games will use more than 300 mb of RAM at high res with 2x AA. 1 GB is pointless though, games are designed with 512 cards in mind, there's hardly any benefit with 1 GB cards.

The only comparable card in the 9000 series to the 8800 is the 9800 and the 9800 GT is just a rename of the 8800GT. Lower end 9000 series aren't meant to be even on the same level as the 8800 GT.

the 9800GT does out proform the 8800GT i know this because my brothers own both a 8800gt and a 9800gt the 9800GT runs quite better like 5-10 fps better on high settings but it does get a little hotter like 5c more

I got this recently, it is cheap w/ rebate and is really good. I got it after my friend got a different card from the manufacturer and loved it. Works great.

Are you sure the 9800GT isn't running a higher clock speed?
