ok so there are 5 missions right or 4 with huge maps. the first level they talked about how they started at the top of the apartment and had to go to the helapad on top of the hospital right well my Q is are there multiple ways to get there or is it like a set path witch would be dumb because in the real world there are like 5 def streets and 4 def alley way maybe even crossing through bildings like going through a billing front door and ending up behind the billding to the next street. Or is it just set ways to check point to check point. come on now only 5 missions going through the same streets over and over will get boring. So 411 guys or any buddy know the answer?

There's four campaigns, each one with about 5 maps. We played and wrote about one campaign, the Hospital campaign.

squerl what im asking is in the 5 maps where there multiple ways to get through them. ok like example of resident evil outbrake first level you start out in a bar with 3 other players then you guys go up there stairs because you cant go out the front door its blocked. then you go up some more stairs where it leads you up the roof then there is a little path you gota take then you jump to the next building roof, then you make your way down the stairs to the street with a police car, then i dont know i forget some of it but i know you gota go to the other across the street i thing there there is a huge oil truck and you gota pick up the items to blow up the truck then you gota jump in to the sewers then the serwers lead you to the street where there is a swat truck, wher then it takes you to the next check point wher then you cross anouther building and then a bridge where then at the last poin theres a big road with like 100's of zombies you gota find the bomb items
THE END thats a set path.

So is it going to be like that where i feel traped or are them mapsing to to have like 5 multiple paths to each check point and i feel free to do what i want with my buddys

Are there deffrent paths to take to get to the next check point sorry for the double post but this needs to be answerd

jason... in this game.. splitting up will get you killed, infact its so near impossible to get through the level without 4 members together if one dies near the start of the map, they respawn locked in a closet. because the buildings are so big in order to know where they are in the building, you see a green outline of them beating on the door through everything you can only see your team mates that way , and thats so you can find them. if youre split up you see the rest of your teams outline through the walls so that you know where to go. from what i understand there are multiple paths you can take in these buildings and areas that all lead to the same place, but splitting up in any of them will only lead to failure of the campaign.

to be honest, its hard to tell what exactly youre saying.

Basically i think he is asking if there is more than one way to get from start to finish of a map, eg. the first time you play, you decide go to the left of a certain building, and the next time you chose to go to the right of that building, thus taking a different route etc

is this what you are asking Jasonwing?

I dont see what the problem is with jasons question i know and understand exactly what hes asking, and i think its a good question acctually because no matter how random the director wants to get if you learn the map then it doesnt matter when or where the zombies com from.

to explain what he means hes asking is there just the one single way from A to B every time u play or is there 3,4 or even 5 ways to get from A to B ?

like in half life you could only ever play the game in the way it leads you from start to finish you always encountered the same path, but the question is in L4D will you be able to take short cuts? the scenic route? whats the deal?

yes, jasonwing, im pretty sure that i read in the preview that there are multiple ways through each level, although im pretty sure they said there werent a lot of ways so it wouldnt get too confusing.

THANK YOU ZAKU001 and DARTH CHIMP yes that is what im trying to say because ya it would get boring really fast after beating that level 2 or 3 times.
But Agenthenry you gota read there preview again because yes they did say that you can get lost in the buildings but but but but at first there all like we start in the apartment then we head down the stairs then in to the street and then to we made are way to the alley then to the sewers and then got to the check point.
They said somthing like that id have to read that again but in that wording it makes it seem like they make you go in One gay path with just multiple rooms in the buildings but not the streets. But now its time for the 411 guys to tell us sence they played it

well since everyone has been saying "yes you have different paths" and he asked the question again, i thought maybe he meant at the same time.

There are multiple paths, as we've mentioned. We also ran through the same map quite a few times and the one thing we've really tried to express is that it doesn't get boring after many run throughs because of the AI director.

Thanks Frogopus for the reply one more question about the running speed with the survivors when they where running backwards in the 1up video was that because the footage was faster then the game play or is that how fast you really run ? i hope that was fast forwarding through game play because if not running that fast backwards would be dumb.

Well it would be a necessity also, and if you noticed the zombies caught up to him before the vid cut. If you ran any slower he would have died before he reached the alley.

Yeah the only unfortunate part about that video was some editing for slow motion and such but I believe that part was unedited. You run as fast forward as you can backwards.
