New guy with a question...

Hey, everyone. Been following Left4Dead since Turtle Rock first hinted that they were workin on a zombie game (I'm a zombie game addict). I found this site a few days ago and love the community, not the mention the preview. I've got a quick question for the guys at left4dead411 about the survivor communication: Are you able to hear a survivor saying something anywhere on the map? Or does distance come into account and the farther away someone is from you, the fainter their cries for help might be. I think that'd be awesome. The games going to be amazing already, I can tell. But I think that muffling the voices of the survivors as they're trying to communicate at a distance would be awesome and add to the panic when you're on the ground wounded and screaming hoping someone's close enough to hear you.

Yes, makes sense. I definately wont want to ever be on my own when playing. But it'd be awesome if, say, the survivor in the back of the group is suddenly snatched away by a smoker's tongue and thrown over a roof or far away somewhere into a group of infected and all the other survivors heard was a split second of fading screams as it happened. Then they turn behind them and see one of them is missing, but it's quiet again all of the sudden. That'd be pretty intense I think.

Although I do rememeber now reading about survivors being able to see each other even through walls. So I guess having distance affected communication wouldn't really add too much. But it'd still be awesome.

Yeah, I don't recall this ever coming up since we were always pretty close. Besides, anytime we got into trouble with a boss like the Smoker, we were usually physically yelling SMOKER SAVE ME! :P Maybe squerl noticed something on this.
