A waste of potential in my eyes. Why creating such an awesome good looking engine for a game like UT which always looks the same?
Seriously I think its crap to buy the same game over and over again every few years.

Have you bought the games over and over again? If you have then your blind or have played it once for 2 minutes then left thinking, OMG SAME TITLE, SAME GAME?!!@!HSFFA
They're all VERY different games for games that share the same title... UT04 was a BIG step up, UT3 is the step up into the next generation with awesome NEW graphics, physics, and gameplay.

It's a franchise, Epic is out to make an awesome engine, and it just so happens they have the rights to UT...

UT .... New engine

New engine.... UT

UNREAL TOURNAMENT 3 :O wow wow wee wow *bling bling*

Seriously...CryTek and CryENGINE 2?

I've always seen UT as a way for them to show off new versions of the Unreal Engine. With just a little bit of leetness thrown in.

My brother bought UT2003...okay...it had itīs moments...
Than there was UT 2004...SAME GAME plus some vehicles....WOW IMPRESSIVE!! Seriously, I have more fun whipping my ass with my cash than buying the same game again just because there are some crappy cars.
UT just died to me. I wouldnīt even take it if you gave me a copy for free.

I agree, always seemed the same. I just think its the same old fast paced shit.

Umm... UT03=no vehicles, UT04=vehicles, including space vehicles. Some vehicles my ass. You might as well say CS:S is like the same game plus some guns.

Probably never played either game much at all, and you can really complain about buying the same game over and over again when you just admitted you haven't.

Mods were much better with 04 because they also introduced the UE

The hell? How does it have puzzles? Dont tell me, "Cause theres a guy there and you gotta think how to kill him!"

So neither of you played Ut04 very much? There were assloads of maps DEVOTED to wall jumping, pretty much consecutive wall jumps to reach a destination, how this was executed made it a puzzle in itself.

HL2 barely had any puzzles, I know im not the first to express that here... the biggest puzzle they had was putting the blue floating barrels to lift the ramp.

Compared to that, Wall Jumping puzzles>>> than putting bricks on a ramp to lift the otherside, when you dont even have to because you can run off the ramp fast enough anyways...

Atleast UT04 had online... >.< unlike HL2, where it was like "Oh shit, we forgot HL2DM, so lets release this buggy ass WIP we have and let them play that"

Fanboy at its best. Dude I've played UT03 and 04. Jumping over a wall is a puzzle?! Fucking give me a break!! HAHA.

No im sorry, just no.
Here lets change the engine, slap on a new name, maybe add some new vehicals and weapons. Here you go! Its the same damn game! Same damn gameplay and everything! Don't say other games are like this, like Final Fuck Fantasy (I hate that game), but at least it has a story with new characters and shit like that.

Seriously though, I dont know how you can keep having fun when its just always fast paced, rushing, speeding, kill 'em all game. I dont find fun in that especially on the 3rd time.

UT is the same thing man, it only got interesting with vehicals then failed cause it got boring again. I simply dont like it.

Fanboy at its best. Dude I've played UT03 and 04. Jumping over a wall is a puzzle?! Fucking give me a b

And running up a ramp is a puzzle? You've NEVER wall jumped, or you would know it has nothing to do with jumping OVER walls.. This alone surpasses most of HL2's puzzles, when you simply had to jump... and dare I say, CROUCH JUMP!!?!?!

new engine=new game already, new vehicles were new WITH UT04, dont act like its not an addition, 13 new vehicles, never been seen in the franchise is an addition, effectively making it different from the rest of the titles, plus a SP albeit a weak one. And perhaps they changed the gameplay a bit with completely new game modes... perhaps not. *shrug* where as HL2 is the same Run and gun throughout with simple puzzles in between and vehicles you had to drive only through a strict path... and I'd take UT vehicles over HL2's TWO vehicles anyday... failing to aknowledge 13 new diverse vehicles vs. HL2's is just more fanboy than I can imagine.

Vehicles adn the engine made the game play different. Saying otherwise would defeat the point of ANY sequel that add new features.

I dont give a crap if you dont like it, but they're not the same games, OF COURSE the majority of the game is the same, run and shoot, just like how Gran Turismo carries its driving... THese are what define the game and place it in its respective genres.

Technically UT03 and UT04 are the same gap as HL2 and Dark Messiah... same engine but heavily upgraded.

And im not even that much of a fanboy, I TRADED this game shortly after its release because I couldn't work it with my crap connection. I atleast had the balls to let it go compared to the thousands who still hold on to it.

Except one thing, HL2 and DM are not in the same series.

Running up a ramp? Its just that? Really? I might have to go replay it if its just running up a ramp. Wall jumped sure sounds like jumping over walls, please elaborate instead of telling me jumping over walls surpasses most of HL2's puzzles. HL2 puzzles are not as vague as your making them seen.

And im not even that much of a fanboy, I TRADED this game shortly after its release because I couldn't work it with my crap connection. I atleast had the balls to let it go compared to the thousands who still hold on to it.

Trading it in for a crap connection doesn't get you out of being a fanboy. lol you can still love the game if you have to get rid of it cause of your connection/PC or what ever.

yeah but no game can even come close to just the environments of HL2 and the smart-ness of it (puzzles,etc).........

actually I literally just went to my friends house and beat half-life2 in the last day or so......don't bash pretty much the best game of all time...not a single dull part......every level/puzzle is long enought so it's fun but right when u might get bored of it, it changes to a cool new envrionment with new puzzles/situations/ weapons, etc.!

I think the 'over 35 game of the year awards' speak for themselves.....and I don't think it needs MP with the shear length of the single player and the replayablility factor........
UT3 looks allright i'm not saying it won't be good.....it's just not on the same level as HL2. I played the last one an beat it in about an hour and got repetitive......just running around shooting people basically to win, hence unreal tournament

Name one puzzle more complex than the ramp part when you're driving the boat thing. The second one I can think of is when they had you run up a ramp you're supposed to tip the balance of although you never had to because you could sprint it.

It doesn't matter if DM and HL2 aren't the same series, thats not what I was getting at... I was just reinforcing that UT04 runs on a way better, upgraded engine than UT03.

Trading it in for a crap connection doesn't get you out of being a fanboy. lol you can still love the game if you have to get rid of it cause of your connection/PC or what ever.

And actually it does, it pretty clearly means I don't love it as much as most people do if I was willing to give it away for something else.. I could play it, just not at the ease I wanted to.

Environments in HL2 aren't even that visually stunning. City 17 is the most boring part of HL2, the only good parts are the Citadel, which is where most of the environment praise comes from me.

SHEER length? HL2 is beat at 7 hours average... it has NO replayability factor on its own, aside from HL2DM which is its online component. Pretty much consists of... what do you know? Same stuff as UT except HL'd. And a lot more spawnkilling and a lot less depth. Unless you enjoy its one dimensional puzzles, and heavily scripted scenarios, then I guess it does have replay value. HL2 is ALSO a run and gun... the developers had a rough time mixing in puzzle elements in the action, so its either your running and gunning, or listening to crickets while feverously attempting to pass one of its most difficult challenges. I'm pretty sure the only puzzle element introduced DURING combat is the mines. Every other puzzle is segregated...

UT04 however, is more MP oriented, and it does have infinately more replay value than HL2 on its own.

A waste of potential in my eyes. Why creating such an awesome good looking engine for a game like UT which always looks the same?

Because it'll sell millions.

nly good parts are the Citadel,

really......the beach with abandon houses scattered about?.......the prison type place?.....walking under that huge bridge was pretty 'stunning"...the place with the monsters inc.-esc pods going around.....not to mention RAVEN HOLM for Cripes sakes. anywayz city 17 wasn't supposed to be the best part of the game, it's just the beginning when showing how society is decaying with the combine raiding/taking over everywhere, which builds suspense until u start fighting... some puzzles off top of my head is the hanging car traps in ravenholm, the whole entire level of keeping off the sand so the antlions won't come up......BEING able to control the antliions later and turn the tables on the combine, setting up turrets just the right way in the prison. there r a few parts where u have to keep out of the water because of being electrocuted so having to build a path with the Gravgun is cool...wait, that's it, I think I know how to end this.....

....gravity gun..............PWND......wait wait wait.....

.....over 35 game of the year awards
PWND x2..........

.....ok, i have resigned from posting again on this topic, good day gentlemen, I bid u, adue

Quoting yourseld, depwned x100.

You never HAD to build shit with the gravity gun.

Antlion sac thing wasn't a puzzle, it was a weapon... I could easily say the shock rifle is a puzzle in UT.

its simply being the bigger man and realizing we have different opinions and stoping.

Somewhat opinionated, but its still fact that they're not the same games as far as being in the same franchise and having the same title goes. Could easily say that HL2 is the same game as HL1, except HL1 was loads better.

I doubt you've even played HL2 to its full extent. If that's the case, please refrain from making imbecilic statements such as that.
Seriously, you honestly think the puzzles of HL2 entailed nothing but crouchjumping? How long did you play the game, three minutes?
UT is entertaining, but comparing it to HL2 and saying that the "puzzles" featured therein are more advanced than those of the latter title is quite simply... ludicrous.

'Full extent' meaning what? I've played the whole game many times, because of the high-res mods... And none of the puzzles were particularly challenging, or memorable to speak of except for the few I've mentioned.

And I never said the puzzles were more advanced, I was just mentioning it contained some, and that the puzzles in HL2 weren't as mind blowing as some people make them out to be.

They weren't intended to be "Mind blowing". They set the pace of the game, distributing the entire conglomeration in minutiae. Beat that, UT! :P

UT has mind blowing action, that's MEANT to be mind blowing. Beat. Again, HL2's puzzles were never that complex, the most intrigue I ever had in a puzzle for HL2 was figuring out how I could exploit the map so I could get to the otherside quicker. Pretty much did this by stacking some shit, eventually making a ramp and then jumping over the wall and running to the end.
