Will the PC version be cross compatible with the 360 version? Meaning, will 360 players be able to play with people on the PC? Their doing that with Gears of War, but im not sure about this game.

Last I heard about this was at the end of a gamespot interview in January. Hopefully they decided it would be plausible and have been working it in, but I don't remember hearing anything about it since.

GameSpot:
Finally, a PC version is scheduled for the first half of 2007, with an Xbox 360 version scheduled that winter. Can we expect both versions to be identical? And will the two versions be playable against one another?

Mike Booth:
Left 4 Dead was explicitly designed as an online cooperative survivor horror experience. I've been quite impressed with the Xbox 360 and its Xbox Live interface. Our game will be a perfect fit for it.

Allowing the PC and Xbox 360 versions of Left 4 Dead to play together is something we're still investigating.

Cool. I hope that they do make it cross compatible. Then friends with the PC version could get on and play with friends on their Xbox360.

What about mods though? If it is cross compatible, which would be cool, it would have to be for the 'vanilla' version only.

It isn't going to be. By allowing cross-platform play, it would put the xbox360 under stresses or things that it wouldn't normally experience. First off, the game is not going to be games for windows compatible so the PC players wouldn't show up on the xbox players player list/friends list (they'll have to join servers through their server browser like a normal person. =O) And if they DID allow us to both see the same server browser, xbox gamers will probably only be able to join about half of them once the games been out for a while because a large amount of people will only be playing custom maps and mods. Obviously that's completely incompatible with the xbox and I'm sure they'll start up a huge amount of complaints if they can only join some servers. And I'm sure it simply wouldn't let you make a listen server through xbox live onto steam either.

It won't work.

games for windows compatible so the PC

That's the main thing, if TRS want to follow in Valve's glorious footsteps, they're gonig to stay away from GFW.

Also it isn't probable, if they REALLY wanted to it could be donebut no doubt it would come out in 2008.

remember, xbox multiplayer doesn't have any dedicated servers, 1 player is the host, therefore I can't see pc & xbox being compatible at all, unless pc users get free xbox live accounts..... can't see that happening!

Yeah. No doubt microsoft would attempt to charge PC players to get xbox live gold in order to play with xbox players anyway.

Yea. lol, i looked into that like as soon as i posted my second reply. Cross Compatibility would be awesome if they could develop a way to make it easy. But now that I know their going to use dedicated servers like they have been doing, I agree with Chronos.

I wouldn't want it cross compatible, Pc and console gaming is different after all.

I thought I read that GoW PC is NOT going to be compatible with Xbox 360

It isn't. Who said it is? It usesd GFW with xbox live meaning you can earn achievement points and stuff but you don't need a gold account to play online and it's going to support modding/mapping.

I'm not buying it if it doesn't use dedicated servers that don't have the shitty GoW lagg (bullet-delay) though.

The starter of this thread -
Not true. Like I said, custom content vs no custom content. Never will work. And they'd better revamp the netcode of the PC version or I'm not buying it.
