I'll have to find the link, but I read this article thing from gamers and such that said something like this:

"I get offended when people call me the word Noob, it is completely offensive and makes me lose my mood for playing any game. I think Noob should be restricted, blah, blah, blah, etc, etc."

I'll have to look for the article again, but when I do trust me you'll laugh.

Aside from this, I think that him and others that think the same are just plain retarded and get "Offended" by the word n00b because they suck ass at the game and cant do anything worth sh!t.

Your thoughts on the word n00b?

Hhahah, damn sensitive people on the internet. Need to shove pineapples up holes. Damn noobs.

This is like a Jew wanting to move to Nazi Germany... not to be racist but they should know what to expect.

Probably... Noob is not offensive, in my opinion the only really offensive terms are derogitory, and retard lapses in there aswell. Only when you use it on someone who is actually retarded, otherwise its just lol.

My god if I could right an article about me bitching that im a bitch so to speak, and have people read it... well thats how we'd know the worlds coming to an end.

Anyway i'll keep looking, i shouldve copied and pasted the whole article, damn it. Hahaha I can imagine that guy playing left 4 dead, and when he keeps getting drilled by the infected and cant defend himself, I'll call him noob all the way. :P

It depends how the word is used, some people use noob/n00b as shorter versions of newbie, others use noob/n00b as insulting versions of newbie.

In general:
Newbie = Poor through inexperience, but knowing you have a lot to learn and being willing to learn.
noob/n00b (when not just short for newbie) = Poor through being an idiotic fool and then not admitting you suck and often instead proclaiming leetness or superiority.

Hhahah, damn sensitive people on the internet. Need to shove pineapples up holes. Damn noobs.
This is like a Jew wanting to move to Nazi Germany... not to be racist but they should know what to expect.
LOL, thats a great comparison. (<< I have a Jewish friend, so I'm allowed to agree. He would also agree. lol.)

Waaa.. I think it's a very good motivational factor, you usually keep playing a game to get better.

people that spam the word noob at someone that killed them usuing a "noob" tactic just means that they suck because they fell for a "noob" tactic

if he gets offended when he plays a game, then dont play it simple as that

I just finished playing doom, and the one thing that really bugs me is when you own someone and they call you a F***** noob, or some crap like that. Now that I think about it, some people sort of Intend to use the word noob as a swear word. But i dont get offended :P

This seems to be the accepted definition but it doesn't make much sense to me. No one ever says 'newbie' or 'newb' but instead use the term 'noob', even if they're referring to a (inexperienced) 'newbie'. Considering the term 'noob' is obviously derived from 'newbie', shouldn't their definitions be the same? Using the term 'noob' to describe someone who is being an ass, or using an easy ('cheap') tactic seems like a total misnomer. I don't think I've ever called someone a 'noob' and I DO get annoyed when people say it in games, but only because I think name-calling with dumb internet words is lame. If someone's being an asshole.. call them an asshole.
The word noob is noobish.
Indeed.

This seems to be the accepted definition but it doesn't make much sense to me.
Any word can be used as an insult. But n00b is so widely used as one that I wouldn't be surprised if it becomes officially recognised as one.

One of the most well known swear words, "FUCK", is rumoured to have originated from an old legal term for rape, "Forced Use of Carnal Knowledge". (I think it was proved wrong at some point. But I did see a program about language origins with actual references to that phrase in legal documents)

Whenever I see somebody write "naab" "nub" "nap" "n00b", I get so annoyed. There are always these kiddies that are 9-13 years old in GMod that says things like that, and I hate them so much. They are so annoying. It's almost like I could kill them.

I think in a sense, the word noob is becoming something like a swear word in the gaming world. People use the word "Noob" as an insult not as "Your new" etc. But yeah, now I hate the word noob. A bunch of punks that say that thats all......

I remember back in my day :) when the term noob meant newbie, i.e. new to w/e game. It wasn't so much an insult as a term to call people, that, were noobs. Now people just throw it around pointlessly, as if they don't even know what it means. Sucking at a game has nothing to do with you being a noob. If you are a prodigy at a game the first time you play-you are a noob. A swear word, perhaps not. But an insult, albeit a bad insult, the word noob is. :)

Now people just throw it around pointlessly, as if they don't even know what it means.
That's true of many words and phrases.

One I see/hear a lot is "I could care less", mostly used in place of "I couldn't care less".
People don't seem to realise that without the "n't" it becomes almost meaningless, because it implies you could be anywhere from 100% care right down to whatever the smallest percent above 0% is.

Also, in the town where I live, angry 5-12yr old's + badass sounding word they don't understand = new swear word for them to throw around for attention. The things they come out with are often amusing...

I could care less

Hey, I say that! I do it purposefully though, I usually mean it... and people always mad for that and get get pissed off at me thinking I said the latter

"I couldn't care less".

Then I chuckle

when a word is used too much, the meaning and shock/surprise of it is just pointless.

for example, when someone gets pissed and they start sayin F THIS and F THAT and every other word is that, its just pointless and it loses its meaning.
