Ok, well I was daydreaming of a campaign based on Disneyland. It would start in a hotel room, and lead into the entrance, then through main street, and the first safe room would be the Tiki Room in Adventure Land.
Then, you would have to wade through the jungle cruise, and travel through the Indiana jones ride, and then enter the second safe room on the top of the tarzan treehouse.
The next map would see you go through pirates of the caribbean and the haunted mansion, then end up having to start up the mark twain river boat to start a crescendo. After hopping in the safe room on the boat, the next map sees the boat docked on tom sawyers island, and you have to start another crescendo in the fort at the northern most part of the island, then cross the river and travel the railroad tracks to toon town. From toon town, you would head south to the merry go round, where you start another crescendo to open Snow White's castle gates and enter a safe room in the castle.
The finale would have players traverse from the castle through some of Matterhorn's interior, and into tomorrow land, and space mountain, and finally to the monorail, where you have to wait for its arrival while fighting off hordes traditional finale style.
This would be my ultimate map, and of course, the park would be all decked out in post apocalyptic style, and players would be forced to travel in the order I said, as there would be barricades and rubble blocking you from shortcutting. All the original music for the rides would be present too.

I would say the finale should be held in a courthouse, where you'd have to wade through Disney's hordes of zombie lawyers and escape via a loophole in the copyright infringement laws.

Good work. Please stand in the line to your left for your free internet.
As for the map, not something I'd like to play on L4D. Maybe like GMod or something, but definitely not L4D.

No, I am talking about DisneyLAND in Anaheim California. You know, the better Disney park. And I wouldn't expect Valve to make this, I am saying I would love to see someone make it independently. I would try myself, but I have zero experience in map making.
And I think that if it was done in that order, it would be a very fun place to have vs. matches.

disneyland for all.
nah but seriously it would be more fun if there were multiple safe houses that you could take to multiple endings. (one being where there is a horde on the disneyland scream(cal adv park) or one in which you find tanks on the teapot ride then that spawns a finale. we have to get more open maps with multiple endings people!!! (total map count with alternate endings: 0)

the first safe room would be the Tiki Room
nah it should be a crescendo event. The music would play loud, annoying the hell out of you as you tried to fight off the horde.
That would be true horror fellas.

The problem would be the special Boss with his high killing skills, Mickey ....

whether or not there are themed infected based on disney characters (which would be funny as hell), I think that the maps themselves would lend themselves very well to the game. I could think of more than a dozen really good ambush spots for the infected in Pirates of the Caribbean alone.
Oh, and check this out, someone (kind of) already did something like this:

granted, this is Disney World and for counter strike, but it still kicks some pretty awesome ass. I think it could be a bit darker though.

that is awesome! id love to see Disneyland recreated, i had an idea where youd start at California Screamin and have to go threw California Adventure and ride a few rides like tower of terror and a few others till you go threw all of disneyland and dca and you escape when a helicopter arrives in toontown to rescue you

the only problem with that is it would be all buggy in the source engine to ride rollercoasters and crap. If I were to make a level like this, you would be going through all the rides on foot (wading waist deep through the water rides and such)

Well the basics are always easy such as creating your first room, skybox, but usually peoples first map looks blocky a good way to help yourself get better at mapping is decomplie a map then see how it works from then you can create your own map then build onto your ideas. So basically IT IS HARD.

Does it require programing skills of any kind? or just patience and learning how to use the tools?

yeah use this site
http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Your_First _Map (http://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Your_First_Map)
it helped me a lot
but it does require a lot of patience and you need to learn how to use hammer and you may need help with programming certain things to work

Funny as hell, but true. Disney is an Evil Corporation.
But the idea aint bad. As long as you make some skins for infected that didn't get out of their cartoon characters' costumes. Getting beaten to death by a zombie bambie. Lolz will ensue.

Great idea. There's alot left to be created with this game. We just need the SDK, and a system put in l4d like CSS where the client downloads maps from the server if they do not already have necessary files.
I would love to see a re-creation of Las Vegas

alright, does it really matter which game i choose and what engine I choose in the Source SDK hammer thing? I mean, can maps be converted later, and are there any advantages or differences to using one over another?

If you want to do only brush work without adding props or entities you can use the SDK of any of the Source game but if you want to add props and stuff that would show up in l4d you'll have to use the custom l4d SDK from fpsbanana URL (http://www.fpsbanana.com/tuts/7416) or wait for the official one to come out.

i figure ill just go ahead and ask another question using this topic. I am still in the learning stage for Hammer, and got most of the basics and a few more things after the basics down pretty well, but I am curious about models. Are we limited only to the models found in the world models list, or are there models that can be downloaded and used, and can you make your own? I am sure that I will need something sooner or later that is not included.
Also, though i have not gotten to adding water to a map yet, is it possible to create murky water which a player can barely see through both above and beneath the surface?

i dont really know lol, ive seen custom models but i think you need another program for that and hey im a huge fan of disneyland so if you need any help with mapping the park and a few of the design stuff feel free to ask me (plus i kinda already started a Tower of Terror dca version)
Smartest thing right now would be just creating your map with the dev textures, type "dev" in the texturebrowser and use only those with a single color and skip using any models at all.
Just by using models and textures (none dev ones) it will make your map helluva harder to port to L4D once the SDK comes out. There will be missing textures and models and you need to redo everything.
If you now use custom made texture and/or models you just include them with your maprelease. I'm using Photoshop for textures and XSI for models, you can't use Valves tools for it, until later on when you need to port them to the Source Engine.

Ya, I am positive that once I really get into it, I will need some help in one way or another. For me, I think my biggest problem will be figuring out what to do with places in the park that my memory is foggy on, but mos especially with the gathering of textures and creating stuff like the pirates and ghosts in rides. And getting nice sound from the actual rides as well.

sorry dude, I already have a pretty detailed blueprint of each map, and I have decided that the best fit (when taking into account traversing the park with no backtracking while visiting all of the big rides) is to have the finale in tomorrowland at the monorail station, and escape on the monorail.
And yes, I have actually decided to make this now, I will finish it sooner or later (probably the latter).

oh, and to add to my criteria when considering the path, I tried to make it so you dont go into "backstage/out of reach to guests" areas as much as possible. So that means you wont be getting to go to the ride control rooms or going into the park through some new side entrance. This was because I want this to be both fun for people who love Disneyland (so it slightly replicates an actual visit there) and because I have no way of knowing exactly how those places look like, and I want to keep most of it decently accurate.

ya man sounds good, im always going to be looking for different angles on the scenery, so anything and everything helps ;)
for now though I am not going to worry about textures, or really anything except the basic structure of the maps. Then I'll go to town when the official SDK comes out.

On l4d, would I need to convert it in the non-existent SDK, or some other way. Can someone show me how to do this?

How's about one of the panic events is getting a rollar coaster started up, and riding that rollarcoaster around a blocked path (while shooting zombies, and make it hard, going really fast).

I have to say that come the zombie apocalypse, the last place I'd want to hole up in would be the world's busiest theme park. If I were in said park when the dead began to rise, I would get out as quickly as possible, and I certainly wouldn't go strolling around inside It's A Small World looking for Witches, much less the Haunted Mansion.
