So the only reason you want cross compatibility is for bragging rights over performance in a coop game? Not for all the obvious benefits it could have? Like teaching all the PC and 360 fanboys that you can be awesome, or crap, no matter what control system your using?
This confuses me. :S
2.won't be getting this game if it's cross platform because cross platform is a fucking terrible idea.
If it is cross platform there will be a way of distinguishing between PC and 360, like an icon in player/server lists.
The chances of cross platform for people without the PC version of xbox live is slim anyway, even if there is cross compatibility. Because I doubt Microsoft would allow it.

I extremely doubt it will happen, but it might be interesting. I would imagine pc players would have a huge advantage to the point where 360-survivors would be targetted by pc-infected because their reactions would be slower or they would be less accurate (joystick compared to mouse) and where pc-survivors would vote-kick 360-survivors.

Hi guys!
Yes it would be a terrible idea to let xbox and PC play together because:
1. FPS games SUCKS on a pad and because of this xbox will have kiddyaim (autoaim). And no PC gamer wants to play vs some guy with an aimbot. It just fucking pisses us off!
2. I also believe the xbox crowd will be the more immature crowd that will ruin much of the L4D teamplay.
So yeah, I really hope there won't be any cross platforming. I atleast hope they will make it optional.

i would welcome any players whatever they play on, it all comes down to how u act in a game, example. . some of the ppl in this thread are full of shit. . . some arnt, true gamers kno when to chill out and shut up have fun with friends, to me that is a pro gamer right there. not some on obsesed with the very slight diff in reaction time or calling ppl noobs, this type of person is rare these days, its like most gamers are out to prove somthing, and anyone who is bent out of shape if ya can play across the platforms, i wouldnt worry, ppl on xbox live usualy find ppl who arnt dicks and play with them, and the rest will flock to u for instant teabaging. and also i think this game will look better on a huge HDTV than my monitor

But you are wrong. Real gamers not only want decent ppl to play and hang out with, they are interested in the challenge of the game, like in any other sport. The fun lies a lot in the challenge.
Have you played any previous teamplay shooter, like CS or BF so you know what I'm talking about Punisher? Have you been in a clan?
You do realize that this game will be more than a "chill out in the sofa with your friends" game, right? (though it will have the possibility to be like this also).
It will be as much or even more like a "Counter Strike popularity game" that will attract a lot of serious gamers out there.
Cross platforming unbalances FPS games as I described above.
Unless TS has some really genious solution to the whole thing...
You can't have fun when you feel the game is unbalanced!
I for one would hate playing as the infected, lets say the hunter, only to be headshot from far away by a aimbotting console kid. Auto aim can be so very exploited...
OR to play a game as an infected and not having any opposition from the survivors since they have crappy aim because of them using pads, without the aimbot.
Without the challenge there will be no fun!
Though I have faith in TS and I don't think it will be like this.
Anyways, cross platforming WILL be a bad idea! The ONLY positive side to it is that you would have more ppl to play with, though somehow I DONT think the lack of ppl to play with will become a problem with this game.
But as long as I see a warning "Cross Platform Server", so I can avoid it, I'm happy.
And maybe you should lay off the "cool forum flaming attitude" and be a nice boy instead Punisher 360?

sorry if anyone took that as flaming but i was just puting out there how i play and enjoy games, while i kno what u mean dude, i think u have in ur head that i am an 8 yr old xboxer, but i have played PC games for alot longer, and i understand this game will be intence as fuck. . lol, infact i have already told my girlfriend she wont be asleep behind me while i play this one coz i will be shouting in anger and shreeking in fear. and like i said. . i wasnt having a go.
i thought i got across that i was speaking my opinion only and not trying to convert ppl to think the same as me, i realize everyone must already be happy with the way they play. otherwize they would stop. and i did say "that to me is a pro gamer" no disrespect intended.
and yeah dude i played CS i think its a bit overated and its hard to find a good game but its cool, BF2 one of best, as is COD2 and HL2. these days i play Armed Assault and Rainbow6 Vegas, i dabled in Clans for a while but i think geting a good group of friends on xbox live or Steam is a better way to land in a game i love. and u are probably right about the cross platform being a bad idea, but in my head it doesnt sound that bad. i think if they put in filters on the sever choices it would solve all the problems anyway, tick the box to see the xbox severs untick to not.
once again not flaming, apologies to anyone who took offense

After a few min's of research via. google my theory was confirmed. To be cross compatible you will likely need Games for Windows - Live. So even if it is implemented in L4D, you probably wont even see the cross compatible games from a PC unless you actively seek them out.
Meaning the only PC servers 360 users would be able to join, would be the ones of people who want to play with 360 users and have a LIVE account. Or in the case of dedicated servers, are set up for cross compatibility.

so what if it is cross platform, dont you need vista for that anyway?
its not like this is a competitive game so if someone is on 360 and your on pc who cares? if you "aim better" then cover him while he goes to aim somewhere else- this is a co-op game people- he has autoaim so he can aim more accurately but not as fast, so let him take longer shots then you. it all works out you guys just dont want to look at it that way

True, but not all console players use aimin assists for more accurate shots. I Play just plain thumbstick, no assist no nothing and I aim just as good as I do on the PC. Have you seen those game tournaments with halo and what not? Those guys aim like its nothing. So I will say this again, if you think that aiming in a console sucks thats because YOU cant aim in a console game worth sh!t.
And if they make it a cross platform, suck it up and play. Cover your teammate and earn the merits and awards for it. So quit b!tchin

im not complaining, just explaining (com-ex there is a difference there)
i dont use auto aim either but for longer shots it helps because sometimes (or maybe just mine) when trying to move a stick very little for a long shot, it doesnt move when you move it a little bit. so that is where auto aim can help.
and theone, i know you said you weren't "doggin on me" but who were you talking to there.
and yes i have seen those halo tournaments (nothing was on tv that day) and they aim awesome, my (get ready for this) mom's boyfriends son was one a lot of tournaments on halo 2, hes crazy. his other son has too. they are both crazy at the game

exactly...and I don't even know how to put auto aim on, i go freely and I've WON a halo2 tourney before with like 40 teams. also u can turn sensitivity up way high so u can swing around by barely touchin the thumb pad so that is not an issue I've said this in almost every pc 360 thread out there.

It's funny when you actually believe in a lie to the extent that it actually becomes the truth for you.
Like the one where some people here seems to think that you can compare gamepad (without the aimbot) and mouse aiming...
You need a reality check.
its not like this is a competitive game
First off... One would think that the "award" system built into L4D SHOULD tip you off that this game actually WILL be competitive...
Maybe for you and your couch lingering friends it's not a competitive game but for many it will be, me included. (And this seems to be the great thing with L4D, you can play it like you play SuperMario Kart(non competitive) OR as you play CS(Competitive)).
I like taking games like this a little more serious than other games. It makes them a whole lot more fun for me. But try explaining that to some of you console players right?
Next thing you'll tell me CS, BF or Quake ain't competitive games either...

First off... One would think that the "award" system built into L4D SHOULD tip you off that this game actually WILL be competitive...
I would say that a game like MarioKart IS built to be more competitive than L4D. It's a race. Someone comes in first place and wins.... someone in last place loses. In L4D if u don't get as many awards as your teammates u don't lose. On the other hand, a player can choose to concentrate on getting more awards than everyone else, but i don't really think thats the idea. In fact the awards system puts u into competition with urself most of all.
Next thing you'll tell me CS, BF or Quake ain't competitive games either...

In those games, competing teams hav fairly even advantage, which is not the case in L4D. Threads have already been made about a fair clan competition system, but until that is built, i dont think this'll be a 'trying to be at the top of scoreboard' type of game.
This game will be a competition to survive, but it's not really 'against' any kind of even opponent unless ur playing against ur own team for awards. Infected players will be a challenge, but killing a Boomer player doesn't mean ur better than him, or if a Tank player owns u, it's doesn't mean u suck.
Aside from Awards (which concentrate on co-operation but could be competitive) their
isn't any way to quantify ur elite-ness in this game. I think that is why DeAdLy doesn't consider it competitive.

I think his allusion to competition refers to competing against insurmountable odds (?) and/or sentient Infected.
The (de)merits are intended to encourage teamwork in a competitive manner. In the words of a prominent game designer whose name I'm unable to recall; "players compete with each other in assisting their team".

The "Award System" is not a system that awards you for "Being" the best it awards you for "Doing" your best. Just because there is an award system does not mean you have to go out and Leeroy Jenkins yourself so that you can try and kill the most zombies. Just in case TheBump hasnt noticed what Mike said:

Yeah well... It's not like you have a lot of ladders in Mario Kart is there? It's more of a sofa/friend/chill out game. Not even in the same competitive league as L4D can be.
I have NEVER said anything to suggest L4D will be a solo race. It's clearly a team effort all the way through (even as the infected side I think you will see). And that's what I love about it. The badges shows the efficiency of the team as a whole. It will show you what you need to improve AS A TEAM.
In those games, competing teams hav fairly even advantage, which is not the case in L4D. Threads have already been made about a fair clan competition system, but until that is built, i dont think this'll be a 'trying to be at the top of scoreboard' type of game.
In CS and in BF... Seriously, stop it with this fucking nonsense!
Since there IS not much or very little even advantage to these games you MORE than often take turns playing CT - Terrorists or Axis - Allies. A typical clan game is decided when both clans have played each side and THEN you sum things up. Hence the competitive element in L4D...
2 teams playing vs each others, playing both survivors and infected, going at least 2 rounds. After that you sum things up! Finding ways to give "points" to the teams won't be a problem, you'll see.
Aside from Awards (which concentrate on co-operation but could be competitive) their isn't any way to quantify ur elite-ness in this game. I think that is why DeAdLy doesn't consider it competitive.
As a team there is yes... That's why he's wrong.

IMO, regardless of anyones explanations are.
PC > 360 (I have both, and have a considerable amount of games for both)
Since I tend to watch my own back, I have a bad habit of doing millisecond double takes, something you cannot do on a controller. And using a controller tends to feel like controlling a tank turret.
Note: I play 360/PC games on the max sensitivity.
Also, yes I'm happy about servers merging, because now I can play with my friend Marcel who thinks the game sounds awesome, but doesn't know crap about computers, and loves his 360 and his 80in HDTV.

Huh? This is not a topic about the 360 and the quality of it. I'm sure the 360 is very good for its area...
This is a topic about PC and 360 playing together on the same servers, which now has come down to "deciding" if L4D is a competitive game.
EDIT: And as I have stated earlier in this thread, it would be fun if you have the OPTION of playing PC vs 360 but if it's impossible to choose whether you want to have cross platforming or not it would suck, bigtime.

Once this system gets put together, yes, four-man clans/squads could be in direct competition with eachother... and it would be totally no holds-barred slugfest. If i play infected on a casual game ill prolly jus mess with the survivors, but if it was an actual contest i would try to be as cunning and ruthless as possible!
A PC vs. console battle would be epic... just to show that theres not much difference.
sofa/friend/chill out game
Thing is every game is this to me. The only competitive teamplay game ive played in a clan was CallOfDuty:UO. I'm jus not too hardcore on the clans so I hope joining public servers with strangers will be good in l4d despite 8 player limit.
If 360/PC users played together that would be cool, but neither side would accept any nerfing to their version for balancing.

IMO, the padders, without autoaim, would suffer OH so much when playing as survivors.
First comes teamplay and knowledge of the map of course but next comes aim and the mousers would have a big advantage here...
For instance, targeting an extremely fast, jumping, dodging hunter would be so much more hard for a padder. And for a mouser with good aim. BOOM, headshot.
Let's just say that games on the 360 caters towards a... different demography. Regardless of the content of said game.
Heh yeah, my thoughts earlier in this thread also. Though I said it in harsher words which is why I get the flames. =P

um how can u teach people on the 360 how to play the game? like come on its still the same game but the only difference is they dont have a keyboard and mouse. and since this is a co-op game and not a deathmatch game its not like you're going to be teaching them anything since a lot of people aim really good with a 360 controller. the only problem u will have playing with 360 users is that they might miss a few shots and maybe some friendly fire but thats all i can think of. its not bad at all.
