Remember when gaming was simple, when we didn't have to worry about our computers statistics, or the requirements and graphics for games? When they were just fun? Post yer favorite old games here, and well see what we think the best is :).
For me, my first game ever, DESCENT, then DESCENT 2. All I ever played, still have them, and they are the best. Then there was the expansion, DESCENT 2: Vertigo. I also thought Age of Empires was and is great, along with Descent Freespace which I just found in my friends basement and just beat. There was also Jedi Knight: Dark Forces 1 and 2, along with the other Jedi Knight game from way back. Damn those were great games. In fact, my freinds and I are building old P3 computers in my attic to play them over my new LAN network I put together. If anyone has a site where you can buy old computer parts like P3 Processors or SIMM RAM, or even old PCI or AGP video cards like a GeForce 2 or something, I'd really appreciate it. Hope this turns into a fun thread. :)

SSB is like the most amazing game ever. Melee was great, and as no one I know has a Wii, I can only hope I'll get to play Brawl sometime. W00t Solid Snake! Omg how could I forget!? This game isn't old at all, but it makes me feel nostalgic. Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes. Love that game, after playing it I bought MGS:SoL for Xbox and rented a PS2 just to play MGS:SE. I'll probably end up renting a PS3 after a while to play MGS:GotP. I'm going to buy an Xbox 360-is there any thing like the Wii has where you can play old game on it? I'd need Xbox Live, but is it possible? Duke Nukem reminds me of Postal 2, which I hope no one here has been unlucky enough as to have played it. Just because it's fun doesn't make it right :P.

LMAO.
Seriously disappointing. Yes, the graphics are lovely. The game, however, is tedious. One long procession of entering dimly lit rooms then waiting for the monsters to spawn or jump out of cubbyholes. Sure, the first couple times that zombies or imps jump out at you from the dark are exciting, but after the 30th time in an hour, it's just annoying. Unfortunately, that's also the entire game. I could kill things with a chainsaw, actually EVERYTHING easily with the chaisaw, which is riduclous. This game was just a huge rip off Half-Life: Oh no! We've been secretly experimenting with teleportaion! But instead of aliens the devil came out! They even put the stupid health chargers on the wall. And this is NOT scary. People who are afraid of this must cry during thunderstorms. Ooh! A zombie! Whack! Killed it with the flashlight. Monster! Boom! A single shot from the shottie. All you had to do was turn up your mouse speed and pretend you were playing and arcade shooter like Time crisis or something. Horribly lame and way to linear, this amped up game was very disapoining. And on the graphics, they were good, but the way they drew all the characters and messed with the lighting was really stupid looking.

the first game i played a lot on PC was prolly Commander Keen, an ancient platformer by a new dev team named ID ....
as for consoles... I played Double Dragon on NES a fair amount. Being able to pick up shurikens, knives and chains etc. was cool (visions of super smash bros )Blood was the Doom mod thing right?
Blood was actually a mod of Duke Nukem 3D... it had alt. fires on all the weapons and a 1920's America setting. Some demon is taking over the world and your an undead cowboy with a pitchfork and a sawnoff shotgun (in close range it could blow a zombie's head into the air) Dual TommyGuns was sweet ..Suffice to say it was pretty awesome in its time, which can't honestly be said about Blood 2.
Relating to Doom3...
Seriously disappointing.........One long procession of entering dimly lit rooms then waiting for the monsters to spawn or jump out of cubbyholes.....This game was just a huge rip off Half-Life.......turn up your mouse speed and pretend you were playing (an) arcade shooter
I agree with everything except that it was a rip-off of HL2.... I WISH it was more like HL2!!! This game was a remake of the original with equally simple gameplay. I saw it for what it was when i played it and enjoyed it thoroughly despite some tedium. The add-on (ResOfEvil) had less monster closets and slightly better puzzles but they stooped to stealing Mr. Freeman's Gravity Gun and giving it to the 'Doom Guy'.

As far as "old" PC games go I remember I was into a couple of games; one called "Alley Cat" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alley_Cat_%28video_game%29), (made in 1984, three years before I was born,) and another "Paganitzu" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paganitzu), (more modern, made in 1991.) "Captain Comic" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Captain_Comic), (1988,) was another favourite. My Dad's Amstrad computer was awesome. Good old pre-windows days.

Yes! The first RE game I played was Code: Veronica on PS2. Of course I didn't know any of the characters or story, but I thought it was really fun, and that was my first actual venture into zombie games. It obviously made an impression on me, since I own every RE game to date except for those crap offshoots (one of which was Survivor, and I did borrow it from a friend... and beat it in ONE HOUR... >.< lol).

Let's see...Sonic, avp on pc and avp on the atari jaguar lol, avp2, quake(s), army men, mortal kombat, tekken, some star wars game on the pc that I thought was badass; I can't remember the name, flight simulators with a remote, it's hard to remember them all. We used to have an atari jaguar and we had a bunch of games for it. Then my dad sold it with all the games for $7. I'm pretty sure it was worth a few hundred...dumbass. OH yeh, dreamcast games! That one game where you aggressive skate around and spraypaint stuff, that was awesome. sonic on dreamcast was really fun. CRAZY TAXI!
twisted metal games, tony hawks pro skateboarder on n64, turok, mario, zelda, socom, gta1 and 2, god so many memories.
I'm only 18 so my gaming doesn't go back too far.

All the Namco, and Atari games.
Also, have you noticed all games from the old days are WAY harder than the newer ones?

Lol I started reading the thread from the beginning, not realizing it was from 2007, because of the Aug date.
Anyway, I always liked me some good ol' Streets of Rage 2, and of course Mario 64. Bomberman 64 was really fun too.

They had virtually zero playtesters, so they tested their own games. This meant that they were always playing the levels, and would get really good at it over the time it took to make the game. That's why those old games were so amazingly hard.

If you haven't played Startropics on NES, you should. I played that shit way more than any mario game at the time. I liked it more than Zelda.

Banjo Kazooie. That game was fucking awesome, and so was the sequel Banjo Tooie. Both of those games are on my all-time favorites list. In my opinion they were better than Mario 64.

And Mario Kart 64... I have yet to meet a person who doesn't like Mario Kart 64. This game was always a blast, especially if you had a few friends to play with. Definitely a great game.

I'm not gonna say much about this one. If you played it, you know that it was freakin' sweet.

N64 had a shitload of good titles. Playstation did also, but my mom sold my Playstation to get an N64, so I never really owned many games =P But I can say that the first three Crash Bandicoot games rocked (1,2, and Warped), as did the first Spyro the Dragon game. I was also a huge fan of the Tomb Raider games, though I will admit that they scared the shit outta me at the time lol.

Dude, Rogue Squadron for PC remains to this day the only game I could not beat. It was like the most ridiculously hard game ever, between the Millennium Falcon/Death Start part and the Tie Fighters in that canyon, damn.

First PC game was either Populos: The Beginning or Age of Empires.
First Gameboy game was Pokemon (obv, the reason I got one in the first place was to play that.)
First Playstation game was Croc. Or was it Rayman? I think it was Rayman.
First Megadrive game was Sonic.. Sonic ftw..

Geez... now my post reminded me of another moment like that back in high school.
My friend's girlfriend walks up to us, mid conversation, and she hears "It's too big for the hole though, and I didn't wanna force it in."
... Ah the look on her face. But we were talking about ear gauges.

And can't forget about Goldeneye 007. Not only was the single player fun, the mutliplayer was an absolute awesome experience, though sometimes frustrating (goddamn proximity mines...)

Anyone else play Super Double Dragon? I had Double Dragon II on NES, but the SNES game Super Double Dragon was much better imo. I spent countless hours playing that with my cousin.

I loved a little game called Turok: Dinosaur Hunter as well. The game really kinda scared the hell outta me at the time. It felt oh so good to blast a raptor in the face with a shotgun, though. Turok 2 was also excellent, bringing even more gore and the always entertaining Cerebral Bore.

This one isn't very old, but it's old enough. I think it was one of those great games that noone played, sorta like Psychonauts or Beyond Good & Evil. Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem. That game was freaky as shit, but also fun as hell.

I've heard about that. Sick shit happens all the time. Like the characters' heads falling off for no reason, and the crash message that turns out to be a trick. The latter is seriously twisted.

Yeah. And sometimes, when you enter a room, freaky shit will happen. Blood runs down the walls and stuff. You hear people scream, you see things. It's a badass game. The story is really neat too, but the whole sanity thing is one of the most creative things I've seen in a game.
