stumbled across this little tidbit of info from cs-nation today. no telling if it's true or not, but i don't like the way it sounds...

the part i underlined and made bold is the part I'm referring too. hopefully this was just horribly misquoted and doesn't mean what it looks like it means...

I'll just put this under the heading of CS: Source as there are some parts that will fall under this category later on. These pieces of information come from my buddy tonjohn who is currently partaking of the Quakecon 2007 festivities.

He managed to get a little hands-on with Left 4 Dead, and probed the developers (Turtle Rock Studios) for a few juicy pieces of information. Is your interest piqued? It should be. Read on intrepid reader, read on.

* TRS uses the latest version of the Source engine. They sync up with Valve almost every Monday to obtain the latest Source version.
* &quot; We don't even know when the game will be released&quot; - when asked about release date.
* Release won't be until after the Orange Box is released because TRS needs additional help/resources from Valve to finish up the game.
* They (TRS) plans to start work on additional missions/content even before the game is released in hopes to have a nice update roughly 3 months after release.
* The game will not offer 64bit support. However, &quot;we do whatever Valve does/wants us to do&quot; - They will gladly adopt 64bit support if Valve pushes 64bit support in their MP games.
* The game is being designed around playability on (video)cards with 256MB of ram as well as on the Xbox360. The game will go through heavy optimization before it is finally released.

* TRS has quite a few ideas for L4D updates and even new game ideas however Valve is putting pressure on them to get back to CS:S work once L4D is released.

* TRS has very briefly considered doing oilrig and reviving official VIP support but with a possible twist. The twist? The VIP would be AI controlled.

There might be more information in the following days, so stay tuned!</div>

sorry if this has been posted already.

i for one don't believe it. im sure that TRS will continue to work on cs:s, but no way will they release their first few updates then ditch the game completely

I disagree... Oilrig AWESOME! To think about it Oilrig would make an excellent L4D map :)

This proves: Valve can't do their shits worth in AI.

I'm glad that they're working on optimization, Source games have a bad track record of being poorly optimized, even more so when I played the Beta for Quake Wars. It's a much prettier game but I get higher steadier FPS' in that than CS:S Source maps, and not just crappy maps official ones.

Thats why i am completley happy with, and understand the 2008 release date:)

FYI, the CS thing is not exactly what I said, and now it's getting a little misinterpreted. This is why guys like me shouldn't talk to press. Sigh.

SORRY! I'll have things tweaked for ya's.

If there is anything you need changed or removed, let me know. I wish I had an exact quote but I wasn't incredibly prepared (just got back from my grandfather's funeral on thursday and went straight to quakecon right after I landed at DFW).

Haha, ain't that the truth! ;)

Chris, I want to thank you for giving me so much of your time at Quakecon. I really enjoyed hearing more about L4D as well as getting to know you. Thanks!

Oh, and, I will be emailing you soon :) Cheers!

Are you serious? The source engine was one of the best optimized engines ever, alongside the Unreal engine. My sister's computer ran it flawlessly with a 1.7ghz processor, 512 mb of ram, and a 64mb Radeon 9600.

The oilrig was intended for CSS, not L4D.

oh you know someone is going to make that for L4D if they release an sdk base
