All I remember about it is awesome screen (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/5/52/X06_all_alanwake_ss_03.jpg)shots (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/8/89/AlanWake2.jpg) which were about half way between HL2:EP2 and Crysis. And a video from E3 or somewhere showing off the weather systems, like live tornado's with the physics, etc. which had me really impressed at the time.
If its still slated for an XP or Vista release I'll probably take a good look at it closer to 2008.

QUITE POSSIBLY THE BIGGEST NON-TROLL BUMP IN THE HISTORY OF THE FORUM!
Platforms: Xbox 360
Release Dates: May 14, 2010 - Europe. May 18, 2010 - North America
Videos: "Building the Thriller" Trailer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wjNZT9QobIY&feature=related), Gameplay Footage (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ahe2yF-Fh84), Story Trailer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M-AbQls9mHs&feature=related)
Backstory: Alan Wake, a bestselling writer, hasn't managed to write anything in over two years. His wife, Alice, brings him to the idyllic small town of Bright Falls to recover his creative flow. When she vanishes without a trace, Wake finds himself trapped in a nightmare. Word by word, his latest work - a thriller he cannot even remember writing - is coming true before his eyes. At night a powerful dark entity takes overs the town and its inhabitants, Wake's only protection seems to be light. At day things return to normal the townspeople no longer possessed.
So, anyone else looking forward to playing this? (Except Crack)

Sounds a bit like a steven king plot. Which is great.
I think I heard there was going to be a demo so I'll definatly check that out.
Alan Wake was going to be a milestone in gaming. A graphical marvel and a killer story, a masterpiece.
Then they made it a 360 exclusive title. Way to break my balls Remedy, way to break my balls.
Playing on a 360 "more compelling"... that's absolute horse shit, how the fuck does a controller have any input on how compelling a title is?
I was really looking forward to this, since 2005 for christ sake. Why do they have to be such dicks eh?

Exactly, was looking forward for this forever, I hope it's at least released about 5 months after for pc. I'm not buying it for xbox. I can understand that statement if it's a music game or some game with a good amount of people sharing the same screen, playing as a group on rockband sucks on a PC (i've tried lol, only works if you have a projector), but a single player story game? That's just horse shit. It works better on PC.
Well the whole "more compelling" argument was Microsoft, Remedy just said it was because they are a small 50-man team and working on the title for both platforms was having a negative impact on the product they wanted to produce. If that's the case I forgive them, mostly because it means there's still an opening for a PC release later on. At least unless Microsoft bollocks it up as they so often do by getting greedy or moaning about how a number of "potential sales" will be pirated.

PC is better for this title, though.

I'm reminded of alone in the dark, but this looks much more promising. Charatcers are well developed and interesting, in terms of plot techniques and atmosphere it's amazing, i'm still skeptical on the light based gameplay which has a chance of being let down by that.

I've bene looking forward to this game since '08, only two- three weeks. I can't wait. The game looks as though it's story-line is going to be dynamite (Although I can't know that for sure until I play it.) But the game play looks a little odd, I remember Alone in the Dark (because that's what this game reminds me of) had slight control issues, but it's a different company so we can only see if we try.
IMO: Alone in the Dark + Silent Hill = Alan Wake.

Then everybody realised that the 'best way' to play Alan wake is entirely subjective, and that continuing such discussion about which platform would be best would just turn this thread into a flamewar, and that would mean a very angry Moderator would have to come on down and take some names.
And nobody wants that.
OT: This whole 'episodic' thing makes me wonder if they plan for people to play Alan Wake in small chunks, rather in longer marathons normally associated with big singleplayer games.

The only reason I say it works better is that I have played tons of "horror games" on pc and xbox, atmosphere wise, it would play better on my pc, since I have a nice monitor, great surround sound, and a nice quiet room. I know I would have an awesome time with it.
I have a large HDTV in my living room that also has surround sound, so it's a similar experience, but with a closer monitor, it makes me feel more into the game. I feel more connected with a mouse then a game pad.
Now I kind of take back my comment before, but still keep it in some ways.
I'll use Dead Space as an example, I own it both for PC and Xbox 360. On Xbox I actually had a scarier experience, I'm guessing from lack of control since he felt like a tank and it was harder to aim properly, so more intense moments due to me missing. With a mouse and keyboard I had more fun, it was still a scary experience, but not as much for xbox, though I felt much more in the world on pc, felt more connected since I was a way better shot.
I guess I can't say it would be better on either or, but Alan Wake is going more action then horror in my eyes, it's not that scary. So I would rather have better controls on PC then Xbox.
I can see why some games purposely remove control power to add horror, ex. Silent Hill, which makes it scarier and harder by purposely removing power from the player and making your character like a tank.
Maybe they did make it Xbox only for what they said, because it would only work on xbox, maybe there is not enough horror to work on pc, my experience with dead space on pc was 50% less scary with a mouse since I picked off the necro's at a long distance compared to xbox where I could only really get them 10 feet in front of me.
Well who know's how scary it will be, but it looks pretty good action wise, I might pick it up for xbox, but my brother hogs it by playing MW2 24/7, so I don't know if I would get a chance to play it. But I know I would love this game on PC, looks like a blast. I just hopes it comes out one day for PC.
For the Episodic content, if I'm going to pay 60 bucks for a single player game, it better be at least 25 hours long each if they are 60 bucks a pop. I could understand heavy rain style episodes, where there is the main game that goes from start to end, but you can play side stores along the way that open up with the DLC, and could add more content.

I think for many people the defining platform is determined by their experience and comfortableness with the controls and way of playing. For instance, I'm a terrible shot with the sniper on TF2, as years of console sniping has given me the habit of overcorrecting the autoaim assist (in most console games) so that I can get precise headshots, while also moving to my next target. I'm deadly as hell with console controls, but make me repeat my play style on a computer and you might as well cover the mouse with butter.
Therefore I find it harder to become 'drawn in' to PC games, as I am out of my comfort zone. I imagine this problem works in the other direction, too. This is one of the main reasons I wish more games supported cross-platform play, even if it was contained to private games (for balance/convenience).
It's good to see a member explaining their post to help avoid a flame war. Good job Shadowstreak.

I was mainly referencing the way each level is presented like a TV episode, even including a "last time on Alan Wake" thing. Makes me think it was therefore designed so that at the end of each episode you can give it a break for a bit before returning to the game. As for episodic content, I know there will be DLC, but the content is still unknown. It would be nice to be able to buy little spin-off episodes where you play as different characters, seeing the events of the town unfold from a new perspective.

Which is the EXACT reason that it should come out for PS3, 360 and PC. I also find PC controls A LOT smoother than a controller. Can us PC guys/gals pick up a 360 controller and be as good as we are with a mouse and keyboard? No. Not without lots of practice. It doesn't work like that.
If you saw me play L4D on a 360, I'd be like a kid with down syndrome try to prove the theory of relativity.

I'm a console player and I almost can't play games on PC because I am not really "good" with a mouse and keyboard.
It just slows me down, with a controller I know exactly where the buttons are and it just feels better and this is one of the reasons I can't get into a PC game.
Anyway, this is just me and it's because I played consoles forever and just recently started playing PC games.

It's not a console war if we're discussing it like civilized men and stating the reasons behind why we feel the way we do.
Unless of course a moderator tells us to stop. But being the fact that one is also discussing the reasons behind the way he is, I don't think it's against the rules.

I think it's about time the console/PC discussion stopped. General posting has been very well thought out, but it is still not related to the thread topic. That is why I only replied to your post alongside a comment on Alan Wake.
Just like Red Dead Redemption, I think I'll wait until some impressions come in before I consider this.
