View Full Version : Poor looking gun "muzzle flashes"...

Can I just say, I am very much looking forward to this game, its been too long that no decent zombie shooters have been released.

The graphics for the most part look really good.

However, I see from the videos that when you fire a gun, the "muzzle flash" looks rather poor indeed, in fact it looks like the exact same graphic effect that is on Counter Strike: Source.

Whilst I enjoy Counter Strike very much, the graphics are getting a bit long in the tooth today.

Would it be possible to change the muzzle flash before the game's release?

The flashes look fine on the other characters when they fire their guns, its just that your own gun firing looks like a 2001 DX7 effect.

Thanks.

They might not have updated them yet. I heard that the autoshotgun has the CSS sounds still. Don't worry about it.

Placeholders!

The third persion animation is probably what they're going for, they just need to fix the FP effect. I still don't like it, it would be fine if it was more realistic, in that kind of lighting the muzzle flash would still be huge, it would just be more atmospheric for me, if the whole place wasn't lit up like a candle from all the muzzle flashes. Should be like Insugencies except a bit bigger.

I hope so.

This game looks amazing, but the attention is in the detail.

I see that the guns have flash dynamic light sourcing which Half Life 2 does not have, which is a big improvement.

If need be, I could draw some muzzle flashes in photoshop if someone tells me what format the files are, I really don't mind. I have made graphics for other games. Are they Interpolated alpha DXT5 DDS files or some other?

Eh, the muzzle flashes are fine. Source Engine makes editing extremely easy. I myself want to change the blood. I hate CS's blood.

I use the FEAR blood.

Well, I guess its personal preference.

For me, they look a little dark, and are too "yellow". I would prefer them to be brighter and more near totally "white" than "yellow".

Are you suggesting that you could modify the graphics client side and not get kicked by the server when connecting to a pure game?

Graphics shmaphics.

I want a bigger targetable area for locking doors. (did you see how tough it was to lock instead of open?)

If you can't get that, I don't know if I'd want you helping me shoot zombies.

Well now that you mention it, they are a little too yellow. A brighter muzzleflash could be of use. I thought you were just nitpicking about something hardly noticable.

You should be able to modify textures, no problem. But models are a different story. That depends on the server/game.

Yes, thats what I thought.

And yes, you have picked out my character flaw, I am a nit-picker, but I hope it comes from wanting to achieve the most out of things, to improve and progress, rather than any kind of malicious negativity.

If these files can be modded ourselves and still be able to play online etc with no worries, then thats great, though I hope that these graphical effects are altered before release, as 99% of the game looks amazingly gorgeous, its just slightly odd when you see those graphical effects that make it look more dated than it should, especially when it wouldn't take more than a few hours at most to paint new muzzle frames, (as I say, I would be more than happy to do it myself).

Cheers.

Sal.
