View Full Version : Ignoring players that ruins the teamplay.

Since L4D will be heavily teamplay dependent, players/retards that join the survivor side and start sabotaging/TKing on purpose could be a big problem in this game.
It would be nice with some sort of in-game admin tool that lets you "ignore/ban/avoid" certain people/steam accounts/cd-keys. I'm saying in-game so you won't have to write strange names like =--=PWWWWNNNRR---= on a piece of paper, then exit the game and manually type it into steam or such...
Have you guys heard anything about this?

Vote kick/ban...

And this will ban the player from YOUR server right? But will it also make sure/warn you, so you don't play with this guy in the next game you play on ANOTHER server?
See, L4D will probably mean more server swapping than lets say the dedicated servers of CS.

Reputation decides this.. it keeps track of your performance in games so if you have like 50469347869367 TK's im sure you'll be warned for that...

Yes, that would be nice, so lets just hope they implement a system similar to this. *bump to Mike Booth*

What do you know that I don't?
EDIT:
Because this piece of text:
http://www.left4dead411.com/left-4-dead-preview-pg 7 (http://www.left4dead411.com/left-4-dead-preview-pg7)
Doesn't seem to explain if/how you will be able to spot bad players as early as in the steam lobby or such...
I mean... Join a game, spotting a bad player, leaving, joining another server, spotting another bad player, leave.
Crap if it would turn out to be like this.

That's a pretty good idea, if Steam Community could keep track of who in the past you've voted to ban or kick from games (successfully) and then it lets you know when they join the server (on any server)..

Yeah, that could be really useful. Maybe with an icon in red or orange on the server list too.
Orange for votekicked people, red for votebanned people. Something like that.

Thanks squerl.
Yeah, otherwise there could be a lot of:
Join a game, spotting a bad player, leaving, joining another server...
Then deciding, heck, next bad player server I join I will try to vote/kick/ban that bad player.
In a bad scenario you might spend a lot of time just finding good players to survive with.
Detecting these players very early on would help a lot. Maybe even if you could "filter out" servers with "bad rep".

I think it would be cool if like, there was a lobby and when in it everyone in that servers name has like.. TK's - Saves and Team shots next to there name, with the number of times they have done it..
This should help? :D

Rofl... That's exactly what the Steam Community is for... That's why TRS wanted to release with it/when it's ready.

Wouldn't the demerits be a HUGE tip that that player is bad news? And if all the other players are relatively demerit-less wouldn't it be easy to start a votekick? And if everyone on the server are all assholes, wouldn't the ability to disconnect be much easier than coding something in conjunction to steam community that somehow warns you about players even though there is the steam rating and demerits already in place to warn you?
Just my two cents on how useless FURTHER warnings would be. "Hmm...that player has 20 demerits that involve tking and has a very poor steam rating...oh well, probably just bad luck!"

IT'd be easy to start a vote kick without demerits, you only need 2 other votes...

Erm, this is rarely a problem as is. Most people in the same hemisphere have approximately the same eating, sleeping, fucking schedules.

Why waste time on trying to convince ppl on the server that you want a player kicked when you could just avoid this person using the system we are discussing?
Furthermore, it would be nice to have a personal ignore list that lets you know if this guy is on the server, before joining it.
Some players could be asses and still have good merits.

This is why a matchmaking system along the lines of Halo2's would be perfect for this situation. You just tell the system what kind of people you want to play with and the system automatically finds players that match your quota. And if you wanted to, you could play with a party of friends.

It can't be that hard for you guys to find 3 people and play, especially with the Steam Community which will probably be done by then or atleast improved. It's supposed to have matchmaking capabilities also.

Yeah dontleave, we understand that there won't be a lack of people to play with...
The thing we are discussing is not the difficulty of finding people, it's a timesaving system that helps you spot the players you want to play with, or the ones you don't want to play with, as soon as possible.
And no, it's not 3 people... It's 7. Don't you think Survivors and Infected often wants to change sides after a game?
And would it be fun if the survivors, when you play as infected, started TKing on purpose causing that round to get fucked?
Sounds great with the matchmaking, perhaps it will be something similar to what we are discussing.

I see no convincing needed. Unless YOU are a huge ass and pick fights for no reason with people who don't cause trouble (ie demerits.) All you have to do is point at the guy and say "Erm, that guy has LOADS upon LOADS of tk demerits" /voteban
I'm a night person, most ppl aren't ;)
So am I and I have very few problems finding servers as is. Plus it helps to have nightowlish friends, which can be found by playing servers during the night. I'm really not seeing any problems with the current systems proposed by TRS. Sure, when the thing first starts off there may be trouble determining whose a jackass and whose an actual decent person, but after a couple weeks I think the demerits and merits will show people for what they are.

Yeah. Even a simple search with filters like this would be very usefull:
- 0, under 10, under 20, etc. of certain detriments. (e.g. teamkilling)
- Players lots, or few, of a certain type of merit. (e.g. teamwork type merits, anti-teamwork detriments, etc.), or players who have at least X number of a merit/detriment.
- Similar to the above but for successful votekicks and votebans carried out agaisnt themselves, and by them against other people.
- etc.
I'm a night person, most ppl aren't ;)
/agree. I sleep on average from 6am to early afternoon, or from early afternoon to late afternoon. Depending on how recently I've pulled an all nighter and when I need to be out. So a lot of the people I game with are in America/Canada time zones because people I know are often asleep when I play games.

All you have to do is point at the guy and say "Erm, that guy has LOADS upon LOADS of tk demerits" /voteban
And then he starts arguing "No that was my brother playing, honestly!"... And then everybody starts arguing. 5 minutes later you decide to kick the guy. 1 min after that another players joins your server.
Hopefully the new player hasn't got too many demerits...
And not only that... There will be issues about WHAT sorts of demerits are the really bad ones... One might consider TKs being the worst ones... Others might consider the hogs (selfish) demerits to be the worst ones.
I myself wouldn't want to play with someone who ain't a teamplayer... He might have a spotless merit record regarding TKs and still be an ass...
This is what I would like to avoid BEFORE I join a server. It would save a lot of frustration in the long run.

Perhaps it will be possible for a server or stats system to record any merits/detriments dished out in that server. And then not allow access after X amount of certain detriments. Like some CS:S/DoD:S servers which only allow access if you're above a certain rank on a different server. (I think its hlstatsx which is used to do that mostly)
Or something like a merit-detriment ratio. With some merits/detriments counting as more than one point in the ratio.

If it's done officially (which I hope it will, but there are valid reasons for it not to be) then there will be a way to filter in the server list for that kind of server. (like with VAC servers)
Or if done by the source community, or as a hlstatsx version, servers using it could mark their name with something like "ANTI-CHAOS", or something shorter which makes more sense. Because I think HLSW may be able to search for a specific string of letters in server titles as a filter. But I don't use it for finding servers so I'm not sure.

Ahh these de/merit discussions remind me of my old RE: Outbreak stats...
98% survival rate.
97% Fine
2% Caution
0% Danger
1% Poison
Oh that'll change... that'll definately change.

Do you guys think people will be able to do a stats reset? I mean, if the (de)merits really are linked to your steam account, what if they get horribly ruined at some point, and nobody want's to play with you anymore? (Like the kid who accidentaly peed himself in kindergarten.) Lets face it; sometimes it really isn't your fault, like different people playing at your computer.

1. Don't let the tards play on your account too much.
2. Then play a little more carefully for a week or so and the stats will probably even out to what your playstyle is all about.

Anyway back to non-reality, It would be neat if you could write player reviews in Steam Comunity, One could choose to belive the review or not but if you see a review by a player you've met before you'd be more inclined to belive it. But i suppose that would open a can of worms on what sort of content people would enter. Just a thought anyway

If you're on a server that believes that kinda bullshit, leave with haste! That excuse has become as believable as "The dog ate my homework." It might work against extremely empathic or stupid people and 'believed' by those who have their own malicious intentions, but against level-headed people it'll never slip by. Cynicism is the defense of the wise.
