Relating to an interest in creating my own muzzle flashes for L4D, does anyone know how you modify Source engine graphic files?
I know nothing about modding Source games, I have only ever modded racing games in the past.
Thanks.

... fpsbanana. But as for modding yourself, no idea.

I don't like fpsbanana much, but it probably has some good tutorials.

Maybe the Valve Developer Community has some info too.

Or you could try the steampowered forums.

I'm sure there will be sites dedicated to modding source, but I cant think of any from memory.

If you're looking for mapping, interlopers.net has good tutorials.

OK, ive downloaded the .VTF plug in for Photoshop and have got it working.
I have painted new muzzle flashes with a mix of success.
However, the one question I have is that is it possible to adjust the opacity of the "flash".
As in, at the moment the flashes look quite subdued. What would be perfect would be that if you could save the muzzle flashes as a HDR map, so that they are really bright and dominating.
At the moment they seem to be lacking impact and saturation.
