I am thinking about getting a second hard drive for my main Computer. Right now I have a 300 GB SeaGate drive. When I look for my second one on newegg.com do I need to get another Seagate with the same RPMs or does it matter?

thanks!

Nah it doesnt matter, unless you are going to run a RAID (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAID#Purpose_and_basics). Which I assume you aren't with only 2 hard-drives.

well there is raid 0 that only needs 2 drives but yes you don't need them to match if you just need a 2nd HD.

With 2 drives, you can do RAID 0, RAID 1, or JBOD.

Not the issue of the thread though. Like the others said, you can get any drive you want. If you do plan on RAIDing them, don't do a RAID 0: if either drive fails, you lose all data on both drives.
