So today i decided that i'll get my hands down and dirty with some overclocking. It was the first time ever doing this so i don't know how good my results really are, but i thought i did really well.
So here's what you need to know:
Motherboard - GIGABYTE GA EP45 G3SL
Graphics Card - GeForce 8800GTX (OC GPU core 576Mhz -> 630 (for now), GPU memory 900Mhz -> 965, fan running at 80%, avg 60-64celcius at desktop)
CPU - Intel 2 Quad Q6600 2.4Ghz (OC 2.4 -> 3.0Ghz, also for now)
RAM - Corsair 800Mhz 2gig

CPU OC (http://img258.imageshack.us/img258/271/cpuoc30ghzv2cu1.jpg)
Unfortunatly, i didn't have a picture of a complete 3dmark before i Overclocked anything.
So any suggestions ? tips ?
Post any flashy overclocks you got here, because i find this extremly interesting.

What is this 3Dmark Vantage? Is it free? I have the 3Dmark06 and my score doesn't come out like that.

What is this 3Dmark Vantage?
Scoring for your hardware.
Is it free?
Don't think so.

Scoring for your hardware.
I know what 3Dmark is, I was asking what the difference was with 3Dmark Vantage.

Congrats you still know nothing about hardware! And now you know less about software!

OCing is pretty much trial and error. CPU wise (assuming you're working through by increasing the FSB) you just pump up the FSB a few MHz reboot and see if you can POST/go into Windows/Run apps etc. Once you get to some crazy high MHz # you may need to clock your RAM down a bit to keep going. You'll also need to increase vCore and other voltages if you want to get to some high frequencies.
Personally:
Q9450 2.66GHz-->3.2GHz
GTX 280 615/1107---> 655/1200
Gigabyte X48
3DMark Score: ~15000

wow fuzzy my pc cost atlot less but i managed to get better performance from overclocking,
Q6600 2.4GHz->3.8GHz = 1.48V
EVGA 9800GTX+ Super Clocked
ASUS P5Q Pro
3D Mark Score: 16102

hehe i wish
My case is an antec 900 and my cpu cooler is a Thermalright 120 extreme black edition
load cpu is 48C idle is awsome look here:
IDLE:

These pics were taken before the 3dmark test so the cpu is at 3.6ghz at the time.

I hang out around 30 Celsius on Idle, but that's because my CPU is only 3.04 GHz

you useing a Q6600?
darkmessiah
02-20-2009, 12:39 PM
Nah, if I just OC'd with to 3 GHz with a Q6600 I'd be a complete noob-ass lol
AMD X2 5600+, the last efficient AMD processor out there...

Hey, I saved money on that! haha
Switching to Intel woulda costed me 200 more bucks, and I was at an 800 dollar budget

02-20-2009, 12:43 PM
yeah i guess for your time of purchase i would of done the same, but since the release of the Q6600 there is no excuse for new buyers ^^

02-20-2009, 12:44 PM
Yeah... I just gotta save sometime, but my mobo is also an AMD-only sucky cheap one, so I gotta save even more... and then I just think I should buy a whole new computer

lmao if you want help i can give some advice
also remember the max voltage the q6600 can go up to is 1.5v so see how far you can go with the vcore on 1.5

I don't know about you but I run my fan manually at 100% sometime I slip up on l4d running 40% but on GTA IV max either run that fan or crash LOL!
congrats you just achieve 5-6 fps omg what a diffrence!....very true
you probably have a little more head room but sometimes you have to weigh performance vs reliability.....ya MAYBE I can get to 3.9ghz but my temps would be high etc..... however i think the reason most overclock is because it's a gamble and getting to your set goal although sometimes F#%king annoying ends up being kinda fun
Don't know if you can find it anymore but a guide that helped me A LOT is the DFI overclocking guide...search it on google mostly aimed at amd but still very usefull.....
currently running q6600 @ 3.6 ghz

i ran prime95 for about 15 min no problems going to put more grease on the CPU before i try for 3.6 or higher it seems i did not put a even coat when i put it on.

Put some nutmeg on that mothafucka!
I bet you could get to 3.8. I'm probably wrong.
