So by now everyone has heard the news that the game will be released some time in 'early 08'. What ever the reason, I am wondering two things.
1. What do YOU want Turtle Rock to do with the extra time?
i.e. correct reloading animations, unlockable survivor skins, new weapon skins?
2. What IS Turtle Rock going to do with the time?
Just what are they going to be doing? Sitting on it? I think NOT! Anyone heard anything?
I took a few of the things I've seen on the forum about what people want, most of them are ridiculous, a few are good ideas. I personally would like to see unlockable weapon skins. This way you can tell who has 'survived' in the past. Nothing fancy, maybe an AK47 skin, a revolver skin, those kinds of weapons.

Work on achievements, implementation and testing with Steam Community, bugs/glitches, graphical tweaking, and most likely continue any work on any maps they have left to develop.
That's what I think.

I would like Booth to spend a lot of time tweaking the AI of the Infected and the Survivors, but i know he will be doing that anyway so i am happy. Other things i would like them to spend time on are:
The Maps, everyone should be a favorite:P
The Animations, I do like the fact that they have added animations to the Infected deaths, but one of the best parts about the source engine is the rag doll physics. I hope its a good combination of both.
Optimization, the most important thing for me that they work on is basically optimizing the game to run as smooth and bug free as possible...

i think TRS has only shown about 1/4 of the planned maps.... so they could have plenty of mapwork ahead. I wouldn't expect a bunch of unannounced features/content to be added.... I'd rather they polish AI and animations before bothering with new guns and skins.
Optimization, the most important thing for me....
Probably a lot of this.... hopefully a lot of this.
I personally would like to see....
TRS has said that they're gonna release new content asap after initial release, i got my fingers crossed that they'll deliver. Another gamemode or campaign(scenario) 6 months after release would really keep they game goin. But of course, new survivor characters, boss monsters, guns... any expansion would be welcome.

As for deaths, they are a combination of both. It would be ghey x1000 if they were just ragdolls... Holy. Crap.

2. Yes it would, because they're not different every time, its quite the contrary. More to the point theres only so many different ways they will fall if left to ragdolls alone, only so many ways you can shoot them, especially if you're going for headshots. The good thing is the ragdolls dont stay on the ground long or else you'd see the same position over and over again.
3. Use a damn period not a comma.

I was looking forward to buy a new PC (new parts) in a few months so that I can play L4D on highest settings. I hope an up-to-date-PC can handle this.
P.s.:
The devil already took over my PC...seriously I hate my PC so much I cant stop screaming at my tower!! Latest shit he buggs me with: It suddenly doesn´t recognize my headset.
If I had the money to buy a complete one with everything included I swear I would shred this haunted thing with an axe.

...Wait what? It sounds like you have ragdolls mixed up with animations, then back again.
The things about the ragdolls in this game, that I've seen in gameplay, is that they drop fast so there's almost no ragdoll motion to bitch about. It's not like FEAR where the body flails through the air for 3 seconds before it hits the ground. So if anyone's angry about the 'ragdolls' in this game... I hope you have a good long life.
P.S.: There are death animations, similar to Gears Of War though. They have that minor seizure, or as I like to call "The human shield".

i was wondering as if bodies and things will make your computer cry low fps, would it be a good idea for an automatic length of time after death, but not by length of time or how many there are, but on your frame rate which can be clientside set, eg, set it to 30, and when you get under 30fps it will make things disapear untill the 30fps cap,(or whatever you set it too. this way those of us with awesome computers can see more carnage!...
maybe a key to throw your pistol lol... i mean at a zombie, lol... but no i think not...
also i didnt like it when the doors that the zombies bashed down in a vid, when the whole door came off, i'd like for a little of the door at the hinges to remain and flap as they run through.... but not im nit picking lol...
i so want to play this, i love co op!

....ok on to L4d....it seems like so far it's half ragdoll and half animations, and it looks fine to me!
I'm sure there's plenty to do. We've seen a playtest that includes but a single "scenario" or "campaign" or whatever the hell you want to call it. And yeah, it's looks damn nice. But the game will ship with as many as FIVE such scenarios. Not to mention the plethora of "placeholders" Mike B mentioned.
So ... I'm sure there's plenty to do. It's not as if they're sitting on a finished game, watching us twist in the wind.

Uuuh no. I have nothing mixed up, if you played 50 man servers in CS:S like I do, and pwn... or even a Zombie Hell server, you know that ragdolls DO get old. And if it WAS 100% ragdolls and no animations then it would be EXTREMELY dull. Believe or not, its not impossible to get two different bodies to fall the exact same way, infact, as I said before, its quite the contrary.
Also, no one is angry, figure out a joke when you see it. Trust me, im the last person you'll see getting angry... on the internet of all places.
As for the Flame Thrower in Halo 3... Why the hell? Everyone knows Flamethrowers+Hordes of weak enemies= Awesome. So that rules out Halo 3 right there, and if there are hordes of ANYTHING other than Flood that the Flamethrower is effective against, then thats bullshit... Story and logic wise.
About the bodies: Set decal limit to 99999999.99

But that is my opinion. They should do whatever they think needs doing. I've never had any serious problems with things they've made in the past, so logically, Turtle Rock doing what they think needs doing, would be the best way to get L4D exactly how I like it. :P
That includes implementing suggestions they like the sound of.

I made this topic because I know the guys at Turtle Rock Studios like to lurk at this site. So I figured if people were to put a small list of things they would like them to work on, it wouldn't hurt.
The second question is for people who have actually heard from or talked to the developers. I even sent an email to Mike B. asking what they would be doing with the extra time. They have not gotten back to me, but if they do, this topic will be waiting for me to post it.

Probably try to get a 3+ rating, rofl..
what has been confirmed:
- insert new sounds (placeholders from CS:S)
- replace placeholder tongue with a better one
- add blood to the hunter lunge attack (when he rips a survivor on the floor)
- polish commends HUD / interface
- polish reputation & achievements interface
- bughunting
- fix any glitch / bug that occures
- playtest, playtest, playtest
Also they are planning to release additional content like new weapons and campaigns after the initial game release.
Again, this has been confirmed by TRS / Mike Booth!

They need to CHANGE the blood. Really... please... change it.
They're more annoying to look at than the footsteps are to hear.
why change it? Whats wrong with the blood? I think it looks fantastic. Also, the footstep sounds are P L A C E H O L D E R S as TRS already said. Therefore they will be removed with better sounds when the game is finished.

Create the other maps and secret new weapons for them *cough* Revolver, Double Barrel Shotgun *cough* Excuse me. *cough* I wish *cough* Hmmmmm... sorry.
I hope they make the other maps as eerie and detailed as the hospital level. I can't wait to see the rural maps. I hope there's a nice throwback to the original "Night of the Living Dead" in one. Come to think of it, some other Zombie movie references would be awesome. But I digress...
I hope that they spend the rest of the time fine tuning and brainstorming on even more ways to improve gameplay.
EDIT: I thought of one more thing I think they should do.
When the player's on their last whim and there screen is only black and white, I think it would be really cool if all the sounds kind of muted and got muffled. A shell shock type thing.
It would add to the desperate feeling that the player would have.

Add a 'Left 4 Dead' feature... like when the character is in the state Safety_Man mentioned, you get the choice of leaving him there to bleedout... but you can give him like 20 pipe bombs and 40 molotovs...

They should, among everything else which is a placeholder, work on the "Helping Players Getting Back Up"-animations. It would look stupid if they'd just crouch BY the wounded player and magically use The Force to help them back up and easing their troubled minds with humorous comments about survival... I'm sure they will fix this so that they actually TOUCH each other, but the placeholders are silly...

Everyone should know. I only read a fraction of what is on the forum but it is mentioned enough on the actual L4D main topics.
As for Ragdolls, I know that Mr don't leave is tired of them and he is entilted to his option but i still get a larf out of them. On CSS and Zombie hell. Mostly CSS, I love to see some of the potistions people end up in. I also love shooting someone and see them crumple to the ground when they are hit. But then again maybe it is because i done 'pwn'. I get my kills where I can and it gives me a large variation on how the rag doll falls and the postions they end up in afterward.
I'm glad the bodies disapear, not just for the sake of reduced lag, but if 20-70 infected die on top of each other my path could be very blocked, I donl't want to waste ammo moving the bodies nor do i wish to waste the time it would take with melee strikes to clear my path.

It is quite possible that they have taken time to do a quick beta animation/audio for playtesting while the animation team works on the actual release animation, making the early playtest beta's animation a place holder until the more ready for realease animation is ready. just a thought not any facts, If it comes out as I have seen in the most recent vids I will not be bitchin' about it.
As for what is and will be done, most of it has been mentioned, ie bug hunt, Place holder replacement, map development, merit/demerit system, and other polish. Think of Any Half Life or HL2 mods you ahve played and how some have really change from their initall realease compared to beta 2.4 or whatever the most recent/final release has become. Quite often you end up with very different looking games. The game play is basicly the same, it just looks and sounds better.

ragdolls are client side and don't effect the server :)

I would like to see hidden throughout the world other types of medicine, you have the pain pills, why not gensing to make your character run faster or take less damage from enemies and maybe relaod faster, and the adverse affects could be a large percentage of life be turned into temporary after its use, I mean if you think about it this could come in real handy if you are limping around and the rest of the team is gone and you need to quickly get to the checkpoint before the hellbent tank behind you gets you first and you need just a little more speed.
Another medicine like item that would be sweet is like a deoderant or masking spray, that whe applied makes your aura disapeer from the infected, mind you they can still see you, but not through walls anymore.
Or maybe like bottled boomer vomit, or something along those lines that attracts the infected to it, to be an east mow down.
But out of these the ginseng would be nice to see, and easy to do, and would not have much affect on the stradtegies that have already been implemented.

I haven't read through the thread so bare with me.
This isn't "extra time." There is still an incredibly amount of work that needs to be done on the game. Its like if someone asked you to write a 1000 page paper and you say "ok, that will take me a week." Half way through the week you realize that you won't get it finished so you say "it will take an additional week." You don't have "extra" time to do "extra" work, you are simply working as fast as possible to fully complete your original assignment.

I'm not the one who came up with the original release date. So, in order for them to have a release date, they must think that they could complete the game at a certain time or are they pulling this date out of a flying spaghetti monster's ass?
For whatever reason they needed more time, so they pushed the date into early 2008. If you read the very first post you will see my two questions. Since the Turtle Rock team has more time to 'polish' or 'add stuff' or whatever I was just wondering what everyone thought the team would be working on. Okay?

Content and testing the content.
By content I mean scenarios; the chances are they had striven very hard to get the first scenario ready for E3 and all the other previews we've seen. They probably spent a lot more time on it than they originally planned (or not, they've never actually told us when they planned to release the game, officially) and are now dedicating their time to completing the other scenarios.
I think I'm not alone in saying that the game play and UI elements, besides various place holders, are all quite clearly ready for release as they are (minus testing). It seems pretty clear to me that the only thing left to do is to complete the other scenarios and test each one to death.
It's going to take time mainly because they've claimed to have created a system that plays differently every time; it's tough enough play testing a single player game that is 100% scripted and linear, let alone one that's supposed to change how the AI works on the fly, dependent on the activities of the players.
