I know how the respawn works and all, but I have never seen it. The person who respawns are either suppose to respawn in a closets or at checkpoints. The checkpoint thing is okey, but these closets, have anyone seen them? Is there some footage of someone in such a closet?

I think it is... Anyway; I'm sure you can hear Zoey screaming from a closet in the GameInformers' Videos in the end. They don't find her, but she had just died. I think it is a very cool feature and it does add some hilarious situations of gay jokes... "I found Louis, he's coming out of the closet now!!!!...." It reminds me of the "Scientology" Episode of South Park... "Tom Cruise won't come out of the closet!!!!"...

Gay jokes aside, I think this entire feature is a placeholder. It doesn't make any sense that when your teamate dies by a zombie horde, they come back in a closet.

Sure it does, They are someone else. Forget about who just died. they are dead. but now you found some other dude(tte) who happend to lock themselves in closet. A welcome addtion to your team. Its not that the character has come back but that a new character has joined your party.

Unfortunately not, because they have the same model/skin/voices as the character who just died. Imo it's a good feature though, because of those situations where a team has to decide wether they go rescue a mate or try getting to the next checkpoint on their own. It doesn't make much sense, but whatever; I think it's fun.

that's really just there to save time for the turtle rock people, like someone said in another topic: "I think the feel they were going for is "We lost Ted but we found John in a closet""
Semi-off topic: It would be funny if the characters made gay jokes when helping people out of the closet

I haven't even read a hint about this feature not being in the final release. What exactly is going to be different from now? Do you mean there are more than four characters? If so, source please.

Here I will take a quote from Austin Powers and I think this fits the scenario perfectly:
Vanessa Kensington: That's you in a nutshell.
Austin Powers: No, this is me in a nutshell: "Help! I'm in a nutshell! How did I get into this bloody great big nutshell? What kind of shell has a nut like this?"

He's not actually saying multiple models/voices....

Just imagine that 'Ted' and 'John' are both 'Bill the Veteran'.
....They are someone else. Forget about who just died. they are dead. but now you found some other dude...

Vanessa was f***ing hot in Austin Powers...
I think it's slightly more tactful than having dead survivors suddenly respawn when the rest of the team makes it to a safehouse.
"Phew! We made it! ... Oh good, Louis is back!"
I mean, aside from having additional character skins (thus creating a "new" survivor found in a closet), this is probably the least jarring way of respawning downed survivors.
Though it would be cool, in future patches/expansions, if there were a game type with limited respawns, with 8-12 characters total, and when one dies, you find another in a closet respawn. Once all 12 characters have been found, that's it. If the remaining 4 die, it's game over.

I think in that case, voice overs would be the hardest thing to come by... which is probably why TRS doesn't want to do it.

True that. I mean, there must be hundreds of lines of dialogue per survivor. That's a hella lot of voice acting just to introduce a more realistic respawn scenario.

imagine a mode in which you don't respawn. You would have to play with out that person. Or imagine a mode in which if one of the teammates dies then it it gameover. That would be hard.

But remember respawns are not just from various closet, all teammembers are dead teammembers are respawned once the doors of a checkpoint are closed, except they start with quarter health, and I would say basic weapons, but I doubt that would last long in a room full of weapons and ammo.

Are there health kits in every checkpoint? Because I'd use that right away then.

Really? I wasn't aware of that ... though I knew about the basic weapons thing. You hear Mike B or someone explaining it during one of the Game Informer vids. But not so sure about the safehouse doors ... or are safehouses the same as checkpoints? Squerl?! Frogopus?!

Yes it seems closets are the only respawn areas, I misinterpreted text, it was just referring to a single survivor racing for the checkpoint, while his teammates cheered him on, not neccesarily because they were going to be revived, but because they just didn't want to lose right then and there.

Pretty sure it is yeah. :)

Prolly depends on the difficulty level. I'm sure there's at least one medkit in each safehouse, probably more at lower difficulty. But, as Crzy has corrected, you do NOT respawn at checkpoint safehouses. You respawn from a closet with a pistol and reduced health (I think), and you then must survive until someone is kind enough to give your their medkit, or until you find one yourself.

Ha, Im not crazy, look I found the review:
"We only had a chance to run through one main scenario, but was made up of about five or six sub-levels just by itself, with each checkpoint allowing our team to re-group, gain new supplies, bring back to life any downed characters - the checkpoints aren't easy to get to alone, but if one lone wolf manages to he can bring his whole team back; nice - and move on through the story."
And heres the link to the rest of the review:

Interesting. I stand corrected.

When I played at Quakecon there was a minor known issue with the "closet" respawning. If just one teammate walks barely past the closet, as if there were continuing on with the level w/o rescuing their teammate even though that really isn't their intention, the dead teammate disappears from that closet and has to wait until either another closet or a checkpoint, which ever comes first.
As I said, this is a known issue. They are going to extend the distance a survivor can travel away from the closet before the option to save the dead survivor expires.

Cool. Thanks for the info, tonjohn. I never once considered what would happen to closet spawned suvivors if his/her teammates breezed past, choosing to ignore all the banging and screaming (or by accident, whatever).
So when you reach a checkpoint (safehouse), do all downed survivors simply respawn? Do they respawn with reduced health and a pistol? Or what?
For some reason, I had it in my head that reaching safehouse checkpoints did NOT respawn dead survivors. But I'm wrong, obviously. =)

If I remember correctly, everybody respawns at checkpoints (when the new map loads). Checkpoints usually have some extra ammo, weapons, and health kits but I believe not all checkpoints are the same as far as what they contain.
If you spawn in a closet, you only have your pistol.
you played!?
Correct. I played at Quakecon.

So it's going to be possible to leave someone in the closet and not release them at all?
This just might be the best way of handling useless players ever invented in an on line game :D
