Post your tactics here for taking out the Infected/Survivors on Left 4 Dead.
My tactic is that your Infected team consists of: A Smoker and three Hunters. The Smoker can pull one of the survivors, luring them, then a hunter takes out the back guy, leaving two more hunters. The Hunters can then pounce on the remaining survivors.

My tactic is that the survivors have HP, so you should do things that damage them, until they have no more HP.
No, seriously.
Hunter: Practice getting as high as possible, aim for something on the ground, and try to pounce up in the air at an angle where when you come down, you land as close as possible to that spot, if not directly on it. You can do up to 25 damage in one pounce if you travel far enough on the way to the target. Plus, since the survivors are always moving, practice on different spots all over the place. You want to get used to predicting their movement, and aiming accordingly. Don't forget that the movement buttons allow you to fine-tune your attack in mid-air. Just don't rely on it cause it's not That potent of a change.
Also, if there's fire anywhere around, use it. Hunters don't burn that fast, and if you're lit up when you pounce a survivor, they take dmg like crazy. We're talking 100 to red in just a few seconds. If you can somehow combine fire with a huge pounce, that's one dead survivor. just make sure you attack fast, because hunters scream like babies when they're on fire.
When boomers attack, you have 2 choices. Go for one of the guys who got hit, and enjoy the meat cover of a few zombies as the others try to help him out, or go for someone who didn't get hit (best when there's only one guy still green) cause the puked on survivors are going to be tending to their own situations.
When smokers catch someone, don't immediately pounce. Check the situation out. If there's one survivor coming to help out, pounce him, and if you have time before they get there, take a few swipes at the trapped survivor. Better two survivors down than getting shot off after just a couple of smacks.
Finally, if you get knocked off someone, try to run towards the nearest crowd of zombies and get away. If you can survive to pounce again, all the better.
For the Smoker, stay out of sight, or behind obstacles like cans or cars. Try to get survivors from behind. Pulling them off ledges is very very good. If a Boomer's struck, again, the people he missed are who you want to aim for. If a hunter pounces your target, get out of sight ASAP, cause one of the survivors is going to be coming for him, and your tongue just doesn't recharge that fast.
As for the Boomer, try not to spawn until the survivors are just about on you, and stay behind walls. Ambush them from corners when you can. Nothing dies faster than a Boomer who's waddling down a hallway or across a road.
When a survivor's been split off from it's group and is trapped either by a hunter or smoker, try to get the guys coming back for him, as if you pop when you're nearby a survivor who's trapped but not incapped, you'll knock the hunter or smoker off of them. If they still head towards their buddy once slimed, get as close as you can to them and hope they'll pop you while you're nearby enough to get the last guy as well.
Also, some really really high up spots used to make a boomer pop when they jump off and hit the ground. I'm not sure if they still do cause I haven't had any luck with it recently, so it's possible they patched that out (pc version anyways) Either way, rooftops are a good place to boom from. Just make sure your gut isn't sticking out before you're ready to blow, because they'll be looking for you. Usually. Plus, Boomer puke does have a finite range, horizontally and vertically, so make sure you're close enough to hit before attacking.
Finally, the Tank. If the other team is coordinated, and sticks together with their shotguns and molotovs at the ready, try to wait for your teammates to provide a distraction before charging in. You are not a hunter, fire is not your friend. Plus, you never want to keep attacking a survivor you've incapped. 4 incapped survivors lose the round a lot faster than 3 alive and 1 dead. Just make sure to keep an eye on the ones you Have incapped, cause if they've got someone coming over to help them up, you've got one hell of an opportunity. That and objects. Hit whatever you can at them. Logs, cars, forklifts, anything that moves will instantly incap whatever it touches. This is very good.
Also, if the survivors are outside and at a distance from you, sniping with rocks is excellent. They do decent damage, they stun survivors temporarily, physics pulls them down, so you can curve them over roofs when the survivors don't have a line of sight to you, and they can't use their shotties to any real effect. Just remember to aim up when firing them, and you can continue to aim them till the moment they leave your hand, so make sure to follow and lead your target if they're running about.
Plus, if you're in a situation where there are multiple routes to attack the survivors from, it can be very wise to get a couple shots on, retreat, and come at them again from another angle. After all, the last thing you want is to get destroyed by a constant stream of firepower. Just remember that you have to keep attacking them if you don't want to lose control.

Some personal advice from your friendly neighborhood Slain
1. Always wait for a boomer to puke before attacking. This makes it very hard to see, and the extra infected make it difficult to help a friend in need.
2. The smoker is not to be underestimated. Many people fear the smoker for his ability in NM3 to pull the survivors off the roof of the warehouse. However, there are several other spots, which the smoker can use to ensure maximum destruction. For example, get behind the truck to the right of the garage. If you pull a survivor out of this window, then you most likely will die, and not do much damage, but if you have two hunters on standby, they will usually send another survivor to escort him around. Boom on the other two survivors, and pounce the two separated from the pack. With any luck, the same two hunters will get the last two.

If I'd write my tactics, I'd have to write a strategy guide for all levels. :P Prefarably with maps... which I won't do.
But basically:
NM1: Boomer/tank owns this level, but it's rare to get whole team dead.
NM2: Hunters will kill the opposition with ease. Boomer and smoker slow them down.
NM3: Smoker will kill the whole team. Smoker rules this level 100-0. With the main help from Smoker, hunters will mow down the enemies.
NM4: Boomer/Smoker level, there's a slight chance of winning as infected if you utilize hunters as slowers and make most of the smoker and boomer here.
NM5: Roof ambush is important. Smoker can do heavy damage on foolish teams. Boomer most important during the tank.
That's the basic roles in the maps.
Won't write my ambush spots etc, since you never know when I'm gonna meet ya in a clan war. :P

Always wait for a boomer before the tank runs in regardless of if theyre about to lose control. Its very clear that not too many people can see through the bile (you can, duh) and they ultimately freak out or are pretty spaced to not see their team members in need or a huge ass tank in front of them.
With that said, Id like booming on as many people as possible and then concentrating on the ones that CAN see. By having the others pounce/tongue them. You do more damage to them while their buddies are freaking out thinking theyre too blind to help them.
I also like teh two instant kill pulls on NM2 since apparently not that many people know about it.

One is in the turret room with the hole at the crescendo event. Theres the metal bars you can climb up from the lower level to the second floor as the infected and on the second floor theres another place you can climb up right next to it. Its right above the turret. Youll be standing next to a light hanging from the ceiling. Anyway once the survivors pass by the broken railing right as they come up the stairs. Pull one from there to the lower level. Once they get released theyll be dead :)
The other is right after the ammo room. The way people sometimes go through the alley. There a window where infected can climb up to and spawn in. If you pull someone from up there out of the window its an instant kill, but its temperamental sometimes so thats not a sure fire thing like the first one is.

Heres my Survivor strategy.
First off, you want three shot guns and one long range weapon. It will be the Sniper or Uzi. If you do not have a ranged weapon smokers are going to dominate your team, perhaps a good survivor will be able to pick off a boomer or smoker with the auto shot gun but not the pump you get from the beginning. Second off, you want to have at least two people buddied up at all times, if you run off like an idiot your going to die unless you have a melee bot. Thirdly, utilize the melee if you get vomited on back yourself into a corner and melee. At the same time watch your team-mates name tags if you see one go lower then it should be he is hunter'd, if he is running in a random direction he is smoker'd. Going back to melee, use the melee in all situations including meleeing off boss infected or pushing boomers away. Fourthly, share med kits and pills if you see someone near death and you have pills, well don't be an asshole med them up or pass them your pills. Lastly, Discuss what your going to do before you run off and call everyone an idiot for your miscommunication. Also listen for boss infected and call them out, this helps a lot because you know what to do when someone gets attacked. Another point I would like to add is if your close enough to someone that you can melee them off, do it no questions asked. Do NOT stand there and fire at the hunter or perhaps reload and just stand there. 8-10 times your going to have another hunter following up on the first hunters pounce ready to take you both down, with a simple melee you can stop the whole gank and get two hunters out of the way making it easier to run ahead and not loose health.
This is my Survivor strategy, learn it.

Well.....
As boomer
-Don't attack during a horde, as that'll just focus the zombies to certain survivors and let their teammates kill them with ease. Try and go after to keep them from catching a break.
-If an ambush in set up, boomer attacks first to draw a horde.
-In a crescendo where the survivors' best strategy is keep moving (Such as NM3 and BH3), go and puke on them. This slows them down a major amount especially if you puke on all 4.
-During a tank attack is your time to shine.
As smoker
-Try grabbing from low ground.
-Always try seperating teams.
-Drag a survivor to a spot where a hunter's high damage pounce can definitely landed.
-Try to attack with a gap between you and survivors.
-Try and drag survivors into car alarms and near witches.
As hunter
-Go to a high ground where you're positive you'll get a good hit, and not just high up where odds are you'll miss.
-If knocked off, don't go for the second pounce. You'll do more damage with a single swipe than with a quick pounce.
-If there is fire nearby, use it. Increased DPS.
-Wall jump not just to get away, but to confuse survivors.
As tank
-Rock snipe as much as possible.
-If there is an object you can hit at the survivors, make sure you use it.
-Knock objects in the survivors path to keep them from running off.
-If on fire, keep moving towards the survivors only, unless there is a source of water nearby (NM3 sewers).
All of these are incredibly simple, but helpful.
BurningEskimo
02-24-2009, 09:48 AM
-Hold a survivor still for a hunter's high damage pounce so it is definitely landed.
I didn't know that Smokers could move a survivor afters he is beating them down, must be some x-box thing.

If you can somehow combine fire with a huge pounce
NM1 The barrel of fire near the garage door that dosn't open, you can catch yourself then climb up the building by the van. Super rape.
anything that moves will instantly incap whatever it touches
Hand carts. Little ish things that have a forklift esque thing and a handle to push it (they use it at grocery stores to move product around) only do some damage, not incap or a great deal of damage either.
For example, get behind the truck to the right of the garage.
I've yet to try it but i was thinking that if you get on the fire escape right there you will have a better angle to yank people out, but you're more likely to get shot.

Best tank advice as the tank is not to suicide run, please don't.
You have a good 30+ seconds without having to attack, try sneak around the back of them, run below them and come up stairs while survivors aren't looking.
If you incap by themselves, instead of running off after the remaining 3, wait, just wait behind a wall, so the incapped person can't hit you, i promise of of the 3 will be coming to save him soon, run around the corner and smack the bitch while they are helping up incapped (seriously you will be surprised how dumb survivors can be). Rinse and repeat that, if you are almost out of control, run around the corner hit the incapped survivor to regain control.
Use your rocks if they are camping, eventually they will come after you.

Melee > shooting (as survivor)
I'm tired of people trying to shoot a hunter off of people when they're 1feet away

Most likely you will get shot, and also you may just pull them onto the truck. But, if they go over to the window, and if you pull one out, you have just effectively fucked the survivors if you have a team ready

on nm3 have a smoker and 2 hunters on the roof right outside the saferoom. boomer waits in the shadows straight across. if survivors go for weapons boomer explodes knocking them all back, smoker grabs one, hunters pounce two others. it should knock the one the smoker grabbed back into the safe roof where it gets raped.
if the survivors hide in a vent during the tank and the tank is on fire, use the boomer as a pushback to allow the tank to move through the vents faster, on nm2 a single boomer explode will push the tank to the end of the vent.
if you are at a point where a hunter/smoker can kill you after your team has dropped down to a lower level nm3(two places) make sure you are behind the hole. if the smoker drags you, you should fall into the hole. if a hunter pounces you you should still be able to be shot.

Some things I just thought of.
If you happen to run out of amo with the shotgun, reload one round, then press fire. It will put a round in the chamber, then you can keep reloading. This way, if something attacks while you're reloading, you can still shoot mid-load.
Also, with non shotguns if you reload all the rounds in your current clip automatically get added to your "total bullets" number. So while you shouldn't reload as often as if you had a shotgun, you don't have to wait until you are out of ammo.
I only have the PC version, so i'm not 100% that this works on xbox.
