I think it suits them.

The tank seems like his hands have gotten harder and more scarred from killing shit. And the hair falling out (burnt off from mollys most likely) adds to his cool hard man look.

The smoker looks like his tongue/appendage had started to mutate and spill out from his neck.

The boomer has started to rot and thus making him more effective and cool looking. Plus he really does look like a fat overweight 40yr old. (his new hair cut)

And the hunter would have been through some scrapes. So a battle damaged one suits the mood.

Me personally would like to have seen the survivors more raggedy but ah well...

The survivors have to look as cartoony as possible so you don't friendly fire each other.
