L4D Preview: Blood Harvest Footage #1

Blood Harvest – Expert Footage #1

First, a word on difficulty: Expert mode plays differently than the other modes. It’s much more defensive than the other modes. You’ll never find yourself surrounded by zombies and still alive like you see happen in many previous videos. When each individual Infected does 20 damage per melee hit, it only takes a second to get knocked down to zero health. What this means in terms of gameplay and strategy, and what you’ll certainly see in the videos, is that as a team we’re constantly shooting Infected from far distances. The higher the difficulty mode, the more paranoid you need to be about zombies getting anywhere near you. We apologize if this makes watching the videos a little less exciting than the lower difficulty modes, but that’s the only way to survive. Onto the videos!

We’ll provide the videos and also some explanation/highlights/discussion on what happens. We hope you enjoy.

Warning: Quite a few people are experiencing problems with the videos. No loading, no audio, other bad things. I have no idea why this is the case since they work perfectly fine for other people, and sometimes when they’ve not been working they start working fine. I am sorry that the one day this service messes up for us is for this. If they do not work for you, it’s probably not worth the trouble to try and get them to work; just come back a little later and hope.

Maps 1-3, 21:17

This is the first two and a half chapters of the Blood Harvest campaign, named The Woods, The Tunnel, and the Bridge. I play as Bill, Frogopus as Louis, Jaime as Francis and Chris as Zoey. The first map shows you that when things go bad in Expert mode, they go bad quickly. The second map begins around six minutes into the video – the first maps are always the shortest.

The mini-finale for The Tunnel chapter starts at 9:30 where your team must defend a room with two door entrances and a vent (ceiling) entrance. At 10:50, I’m shooting at a Smoker that keeps hiding after the mini-finale. I’m not sure if the compressed video hides it all the way, but I promise you he kept appearing and disappearing. Never did know what eventually happened to him, because none of us killed it.

After that, things get dark in The Tunnel and for that I apologize. These videos are tripod cammed so you don’t get all the fine details. Things go bad at 13:30. At 13:56 you can see what it looks like to be on fire, with fire along the bottom of the screen.

The worst moment for us on this particular run of chapter 2 starts at 15:20. I follow Frogo up a ladder, he jumps down quick and I get puked on by a Boomer. I run back to my teammates since I am now blind, and by the time I can somewhat see again I get smacked with a rock from a Tank. The Tank comes close to me when I’m down and kills me in two hits, which is super quick compared to the other difficulties where you at least have a chance to kill the Tank before he kills somebody.

After I die you can watch Frogo limping to the checkpoint.

Chapter 3, The Bridge, starts at 17:30. 19:45 is a very interesting spot in that you must run out into the open in order to avoid getting jumped on. It’s a really cool view to see the zombies jumping over the fence and rushing at you.

Head to the next video!
