The second video starts off with a bam – in the middle of map 3, a Tank comes from nowhere to hit me with a chunk of rock. If you look closely you’ll notice that I had 86 health and a single hit knocked me all the way down to bleeding out. In other difficulties you can usually stand right back up after taking a hit with such full health but Expert is pretty unforgiving in this regard.
The view from the ground for me was exciting, seeing Frogopus get smacked to the ground and Chris getting killed. Jaime comes through and saves both Frogopus and I.
From that encounter I’m struggling with low temporary health and at 1:38 a Smoker gets me and a Boomer gets Frogopus. You can see the orange outline around Frogopus which means he is getting attacked by a boss Infected. Players are orange when being strangled by the Smoker, pounced on by the Hunter or puked on by the Boomer. After this I’m already on third strike and you can hear the heart beat. At 2:08 I move out of the way to let my teammate get pounced on by the Hunter. Sorry, but once you’re down on third strike you’re killed.
Things go to crap at 4:10, I’m on third strike and out of ammo (dualies only) and everybody is down but me. I pull off a miraculous save and find ammo soon after (4:45).
By 5:55 my temporary health is down to 1 and I’m still on third strike, meaning if any infected breathes on me I’m toast. I limp to the medical cabinet and where on any other difficulties you’d find health kits, there are only pills. On Expert difficulty you will never find a full health kit within a map, only at the checkpoints and at the finale location. Ouch.
The mini-finale of map 3 starts at 6:20. In this mini-finale you must hit the bridge by decoupling the train car. It results in a really awesome scene but I was too busy fighting to get a good look. At 6:38, holy crap. Hunter on Jaime, gets helped up and then a Boomer gets all three of us at 7:10.
After some chaos, at 7:35 and still barely alive, I make the decision to run. Jaime is dead, Chris is down and Frogopus and I decided to leave them both for dead. While limping to the nearby checkpoint Frogopus dies right behind me, I end up getting into the checkpoint with one health and all three teammates dead! Phew.
Chapter 4, titled The Train Station, starts at 8:50. Previously dead Survivors start with half health. I finally get a health kit and no more third strike and heart beating!
Frogopus gets bonus points at 10:20 by taking on the Witch how she needs to be taken out. In Left 4 Dead, all enemies take more damage depending on your proximity to them. If you see us run up close to a Tank, it’s because the Tank is taking more damage the closer you are to him. A very effective way of taking out a Witch is to sneak up to her with a shotgun and let loose into her skull right next to her.
I get taken down quick at 11:20, darn infected with their 20 damage per hit. 12:25 Frogopus has a fun time, getting Boomer vomit and then a Hunter right afterward.
I’m not paranoid or crazy, at 13:50 you can clearly hear the Boomer but he is hiding. Never did find him..
At 14:23 a Tank comes, Boomer at 15:38, and at 15:53 we are in the Train Station about to run out and cross the bridge to the checkpoint when the server goes down for a new build. Here we are, a couple hundred feet from the fifth map with no wipes on Expert mode and the server gets updated.
We cried.
