1UP Video Preview - 4/20/07
Update 4/23/07: The only scene in the gameplay footage that had anything done to the timing is the melee attack. EVERYTHING ELSE IS HOW FAST THE GAME REALLY IS. The zombies are much faster than the Survivors.
1UP just posted an AWESOME video preview of Left 4 Dead! GO WATCH IT! I'm sure you'll all be watching it over and over, and it's worth it. Take time and notice how the infected run and mob you. They show mostly the apartments and right outside of them on the Hospital mission (maybe about 1/5th of the campaign). You can see the Hunter at 5:13 (the one that jumps and you can see creeping along the side of a building) and Boomer (at 5:18).
Everything they said in there was very accurate. I just want to point out something I enjoy.. near the end at the 7 minute mark (it's a total of 8:28) when the female reviewer is explaining what had happened to her, that's how it always is. There are ALWAYS "oh shit" moments every time you play. You come out of every playthrough with some new and amazing story that you can share. It's that awesome :D.
There's a bunch of footage of Mike Booth explaining things.
"Fundamentally this is a co-op game. You don't see "Joe Schmoe bit you" or "So-and-so pounced you" or anything like that because that immediately made people combative and adversarial.. like "I'm gonna get that guy!".. and we didn't want you to think about that. We wanted you to think about your team and playing cooperatively. The other thing is that this is a challenge for me to construct AI behaviors that you can't tell whether these guys are run by bots or by people."
Both Frogopus and I can attest to the fact that the zombie boss AI is so good, you really can't tell when it's against a real player or AI. Kathleen pointed it out also. The first few times we played, and I'm sure this'll happen to everyone, you DO revert back to your old way of thinking and check the same corners where mobs were last time, but more often then not they're not there, and it's just a really weird feeling.
